oh but that's the kicker, i can't recall where i read or saw on the news many years back, but they found out that price fixing was wide spread at least in Los Angeles, California. Where say all of the arco's would charge $2.69 for gas in the AM and raise it up to $2.73 in the PM, where 76 and mobile stations would match their prices in agreement, not because of competition. These were stations not across from each other but spread around town.
The reason they were caught was because it was too much of a coincidence that these stations across town were hitting the same exact prices. Now I won't lie and say I know every aspect of how a gas station is run, but i am also not completely ignorant about it either.
Just recently i saw a guy on the news that was interviewed because he runs a consumer watch group that monitors fuel. His website lists the cheapest place for gas and their average prices. Because of the amount of time (years) he's been tracking fuel prices with the help of many people, he has spread sheets and charts that correlate the info that doesn't only point to "competition" but to collusion.
It was on kcal 9 here in LA. I'll look into it and see if i can find it. But either way it is a problem. Think it's competition? I just heard on the news that fuel in the south east is eh, a little hard to come by. If you can find it it's very expensive. That's not competition, that's price gouging.
I know most of these issues can never be solved, but *i wish* we could live in a better world where people who are trying to leave town because of the hurricanes damage could afford to leave even *if* they could find fuel! Yep, i know it's unrealistic, but i can wish can't i?
What I do with an elderly mother who needed email

Good Email For Kids?

· Score: 1
I monitor her gmail through imap setup on my phone and mail program.
My mom needed an email to connect with family who lives abroad. I explained to her that she might get some really nasty stuff. Being that she is old school she's pretty offended with rude words, so pictures are even worse!
I set up her gmail account and monitor it myself - i just look at headers. If it looks fishy i delete. If it looks fishy but could be friendly i open it up and decide.
So far it's worked out pretty well... except one time there was a header that looked like it COULD be legit but triggered my radar, so i opened it up and it was about viagra, not so bad i thought and went delete it. While moving the mouse to the delete icon i was using the rollie pollie to scroll down and saw a naked dude with one leg up on a rock with a humongous penis hahaha I was like damn, my mom kept this for a reason... lol
anyways, only you will be the best line of defense against undesired things in email, because no one else is 100% yet.
Maybe not exactly the same thing you're talking about, but check out gas stations on opposing corners. When one raises the price, so does the other. Same happens with price drops. That's not collusion?
I spent a little over $2k in cd's that have broken, been scratched, lent out and never returned and a few that just broke (because of guitar playing at loud volume).
Since my experience with spending so much on something i have to buy more than once (my notorious BIG double tape (life after death) that was wiped out due to a friend placing next to large car speaker magnets - replaced with cds) i refuse to pay any more, most of the time.
They can not possibly gain ANYTHING from people like me, for the most part. I support real musicians, not pop bands anyways. I can't really remember the last album I bought but i'll tell you i support bands like Pantera, Kanye and N.E.R.D. CD's, shirts, stickers, concerts etc, i'm helping them get at least a little bit of my money.
So because of my experiences, me downloading the music instead of buying it isn't hurting them, because they wouldn't get another dime out of me anyways. I'm also not the only one. I know many others like me who are tired of getting burned. And for those of you who never paid more than $25 for a cd, you just can't relate because back then $25 was not affordable and it was a lot of money! Gas was less than $.99 cents a gallon&@!(*&#(@!
even if they don't have the skills to put it together, do you want someone who just got by to be driving that on the road while you're kids are out on their bikes?
BTW what about the people who always end up with left over parts? lol
LoL!!!! that is comedy dude. well since we're on the topic, let me ask an honest question, how much experience should i put on my resume? I've been told several times to break my resume down into 3 versions, focusing in 1 field on each. I personally think it's better for people to see what i'm capable of, but others say it's too much or too broad and that might not make me look like a good match.
to me it's very confusing, i tell everyone "if i was looking for someone and i know what i need, i'd like them to state all that they know/can do and their experience, not just relevant because then i can better utilize them or help avoid wasting their time." But i've been told not everyone thinks like me:P
I do understand how it's spread amongst less people. But i guess i just don't know how much R&D really costs. Having a manufacturing background i have an idea of what it costs to make batches of phones. SO that's why i always feel people (we) get burned.
But if you work in the medical field, you have to follow fed/state regulations. For example, if i provide a contracted service for a hospital, and i could possibly come across patients files, i would be required to sign forms and understand what i am allowed to talk about/take with me etc etc and what i can't.
Even janitors would have to do this, and they could be contractors too. So i am pretty sure google and MS would HAVE to sign a confidentiality agreement.
Like i've said before, technology isn't going to solve our airport problems, we need people power that are well trained, happy to do the job and have an incentive to keep the job.
Once again the weak link aren't the people doing the work, but the people who think up the way to do the work.
Airline tickets to North Carolina: $432
Towncar service to air port: $86
Clear system access to speed up airport process: $100
Getting your information stolen and ready for identity thieves: Priceless
Yeah Arnold doesn't take the salary because he said the people of CA need it more than he does. Which is also the same reason he lives at home instead of the Gov's mansion.
Although those who work in the states capital (Congress-people) do get a salary, it's not enough to live off of... so they have their main job and for a few months a year they attend to the states business while it's in session.
Well, in that case this sounds like an old car problem. Keep pouring money to fix an old car or spend some money to buy a new one and save in the long run?
Let the governator bite the bullet and re-do the system, stimulating the state by providing jobs, but also spending more money at the time to avoid this happens again in the future.
That or have another recall/impeachment. Someone call back Gray Davis lol
that's really funny because that is exactly what a person i know did. Although i err, "know more" than he does (was going to say blow him out of the water but i know what you dirty minds on here would thing...) he found work faster and easier than i did.
I though, was honest on my resume and he lied. And that's what it comes down to, if you lie you'll get hired. That's a lesson i learned the hard way when i tried entering the manufacturing industry. (keyword tried)
There's too much "red tape." The bureaucracy is ridiculous. I was just talking about this with a friend... How he's qualified for many things, but even though he could do the job, he doesn't "meet the requirements." It's a waste of talent and opportunity.
This is what happens when you have a society that says "go to school and get smarter." And also why i like what Kanye says, "go to school to get more degrees. That way, when you're homeless cause you only went to school and never worked, you can keep warm with your degrees."
but wasn't google already setting this up and running in a few medical centers already? I think i read/saw/heard about this already...
"Yes there is risk, but the advantages you gain are worth it. You will no longer be at risk of receiving the wrong medicine or dosage because the computer will tell the nurse that you're already taking some other drug that will interact with the newly prescribed drug."
yeah i understand it's for blind people, and yes i know its not a great example to compare to, but my phone will do the same exact things that phone can do. (But only because it's a PPC)
I just feel they're robing their customers because it's for special needs, and that's never cool.
So i can have our robotic overlord read slashdot posts to me, but i can't get a cellphone to read me the caller id? my moms home phone has that function... on by default hahaha it never shuts up "CALL FROM..."
"Effective January 2007 the retail price of the Owasys 22C in the United States is $549.95. This is the price when the 22C is purchased without telephone service."
hahaha can anyone explain to me why it would cost so much? My PPC 6800 costs less than that! And it has a full touch screen and a slide out keyboard.
I disagree, it isn't flame bait... My reaction to the title of this article was "YES! They're gonna get screwed AGAIN!"
No one is perfect, but damn, apple keeps burning its customers with phones! I'm too cheap and poor to be buying the latest phone, but at least my HTC mogul (aka titan, ppc 8600) has lasted a while and held it's value more or less over time.
I learned this the hard way! I grew up with the "America (The United States of North America) is Great!" mentality and was put in my place when I visited Mexico for the summer during Jr. High.
Apparently what I had learned about the U.S. - Mexican war was incorrect/incomplete. Since then I started reading many things I wondered about and found out that "history is written by those who win the war." Very interesting to me at least.
Although I wouldn't go as far as calling it propaganda, it certainly isn't "history" all the time.

thanks a bunch dude, i really appreciate it. I will definitely make changes to my resume with the recommendations you've made.

You know, I really like how you put it...
"What's important is to match your resume to their system so you'll get selected for an interview IF you can actually do what they need."
I have to start looking for a job because I believe i'm going to get laid off soon hahaha. Thanks for the tip!

I just learned 2 things:
1) The word proselytize and it's meaning.
2) I am directly a "nutjob" for indirectly 'trying' to convert people to my beliefs.
