I seem to recall seeing other posts criticizing horrible threads. Perhaps I read them before they were modded into oblivion.

I was about to post something similar...can't understand why this made the cut. Someone should submit a link to haikus about Molex connectors. That would probably be more interesting.
'By standardizing, the IT department should be more productive'
If they still support XP and windows apps via bootcamp, I don't think they've standardized much. Same hardware and same warranty but the complexity of the desktop environment probably increased slightly.
The article you quoted is largely talking about desktop management. The MS/Novell anouncement is talking about servers. I definitely think that the TCO claim is not accurate. But its HSBC's mistake....MS did not put a gun to the guy's head to force him to spew that garbage. Perhaps the only Windows servers they have are a handful of DCs and SMS servers, so they would cost less to support then an army of different Linux distros.
Why on earth do Peacocks have such rediculous (sic) plumage?
I believe that the Handicap Theory of Sexual Selection tries to explain this. Same reason why some women are attracted to guys who live dangerously. Not sure that the peacock decided to sprout some big-ass feathers out his rear just because it looked cool.
".....the likelihood approaches 1 that some self replicating aggregation of chemicals will eventually arise."
Ummm, you sure? How do you know? Did your professor say so? I'm not an ID proponent, in fact I believe in evolution. But I can't stand it when some know-it-all spouts off an educated guess as hard fact. So the vast quantities of chemicals and energy play dice for billions of years, so that hopefully the one combination will finally happen and life will be created. No matter how improbable this scenario is, it only had to happen once right? But what if our chemical replicator suddenly is bombarded by cosmic rays shortly after it's formation? Bummer. A billion years of dice-rolling down the drain.
If an infinite number of monkeys....blah blah blah.
I would be less skeptical if you were using the whole brute force probability argument with more than one planet's worth of anecdotes to back it up. I just love how you spend 4 sentences succinctly summarizing one of the major remaining mysteries facing researchers and theorists by waving your hands and shouting "Science!" It would be different if you even half-heartedly attempted to explain some of the complex scenarios in which the foundation for the chemical replicator could be laid. And no, its not enough to shove some organic molecules in a pressure cooker for a billion years to form a self-reproducing automaton. I'd say that the more blindly you spew pseudo-scientific garbage from your liverwurst hole, the more your I.Q. approaches 1.
Lol, I love how that whole "let's hope they didn't buy a lemon" was thrown in there. 20,000 linux desktops and they're still complaining because its gonna be SLED. Nice one/. I wonder if the covenant not to sue had anything to do with Peugeot Citroen or Wal-mart's decision to adopt linux.
"Personally, I hope that the GPL v3 does forbid distribution with any product that is subject to dubious 'agreements' of this type, as it is the only way that we can assure long term that greedy commercial interests will not hijack the hard work of others."
"I don't want my software plagued by vehicles of commercial profit, and unnecessary restrictions."
Then patent it! Jeez, all this hand wringing and moaning and wailing about a company making a profit from a Linux Distro. Honestly, I've read just as many posts that seemingly decry the fact that Novell is making money than ones that criticize the actual MS deal itself. Sometimes I wonder if the whole FOSS movement should be considered a new religion. There's enough uber-zealot honks out there to qualify as one. The only question left is Church of emacs or Cult of vi?

Dude, please never discuss science again on /. It's clear that you know just enough to sound smart to the grocery clerk.
OLPC baby! Give them to the masses.

Seriously, didn't he disappear after months of spouting anti-Muslim diatribes? Almost as crazy as Stallman.

I like using UUNet's DNS servers. 198.6.1.2 198.6.1.3
Stallman? You there?
