One thing windows has always offered is flexibility, windows 8 just gives more flexibility. I watched the keynote today, all the Metro apps run on top of native libraries built right into the Windows 8 kernel.
I for one look forward to trying this out and have visions of controlling my 55 inch flat screen with a kinect in my living room!
