Oh and addition to all that, I cared about the people I worked WITH a great deal. I would do anything for those guys even to this day, as a matter of fact a friend of mine lived in my basement for a year after we got out while he dealt with the various PTSD problems. We were both there in 2003 and in 2005 for a year each time, he needed help and I gave it without question. So while it may seem like it in my post, I try not to be a self absorbed prat. I actually did several things for moral in my free time, for instance I setup and maintained a wireless network connected to a satellite internet service that a few of us bought for 6,000 USD. Yeah notice I was working in my FREE TIME to make life better for everyone. It was nice for guys to call their wives/husbands every day we weren't out, I even followed the blackouts so I wasn't breaking the rules there. Yet again the upper leadership felt the need to butt in and demanded that I let them in without paying so they could "make sure" that we weren't using it during blackouts, I just showed them where the modem was so they could see the cable was disconnected which needless to say they weren't happy about.
Let me put it as easily as I can, we all worked a ummmm special mission. We were all very well trained with how to handle security and put in a position of trust. Yes it was my personal laptop and yes they can scan it which pretty much says that they don't trust me. However as you seem to be an officer just what would you have done? Can you punish me for having pictures of myself on my personal computer? Would JAG back that up? Also a few more circumstances here, they do care about obscene material as they scanned my computer mid tour and found some nude pictures of my wife and demoted me for that. I also was the guy that as a specialist redesigned the entire IT infrastructure that we were using to increase productivity substantially, I ran the entire network by myself, I ran a pacing item by myself, ran the websites by myself, built a server for them, and was the main CRO all that in addition to my regular job of 98C. Another thing that was fun was whenever the Trojan Spirit II went down they had to call me in no matter what time it was to come fix it(at least once a week because no matter how hard I screamed for them I couldn't get the A/C units fixed). I asked for people to train on the various systems, but they couldn't spare even one tech oriented person even though I had guys volunteering for it. I spent three days in the back of that damned thing working on it one time without sleep or food because my NCO's couldn't be bothered to at least bring me food, towards the end of that the ACE Cheif came to bitch about it not working. I politely told him to shut the fuck up and let me finish my job. So if I wanted to do some damage or betray anyone I damned well knew how to do it, scanning my personal equipment was a slap in the face to me and did not deserve my cooperation. Needless to say I had no respect for any level of my leadership as I was trying my hardest for a long time to be a good soldier and cooperate only to be fucked constantly. Yes, my point of view is one sided, but if they had a real problem with me then dammit that's what a counseling statement is for(I was an NCO for a while until the incident) and it could have been spelled out so I could fix it. I just didn't play games and called people out on bullshit so they didn't like me. So fuck the Army, I'm out now and they can kiss my ass.
You've been modded funny, but I think an Insightful is in order. It really is a trade with large sums of money and corruption involved. Yes my aluminum foil brain wave scanning deflector sheild is firmly in place.
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
As this applies to regular mail, I think that it applies to email as well despite the government not getting a cut of the money.
No person shall be held to answer for any capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
Self Explanatory, encrypt. Also as the beginning states they cannot do anything to you unless they bring you before a Grand Jury. The wording is clear that the only exception are members of the Military. Which brings me to a fun story.
When I was in the Army deployed to Iraq they told us that they had to scan our computers before we left to look for secrets and obscene material. Well this made me very angry so first I offered my services to a few friends and setup truecrypt volumes for them. Then I took a picture of myself flipping off a camera, labeled them things like Fuck Me hard(several different variations on that theme) and distributed 30,000 copies all over my hdd. Let's just say that when they put in the scanning disk the person performing the scan got really tired of seeing me flip him off and they didn't find anything. I know it was petty and he really wasn't doing it because he wanted to, but I think that I made a point even if it was in a very small way. The leadership never ever scanned anything of mine again.
This is one case where I think an enterprising spammer could have a ton of fun. Just start spamming emails through all the bots that have an "interesting" generator for keywords and phrases. Considering the volume of spam it would be very difficult to watch.
I agree very strongly with your argument. Humanity has this terrible penchant for killing itself and sooner or later we're going to turn the Earth into a scorched cinder, I just hope that it's long after we move a large portion of the people off the planet. If not a large part then at least enough to keep our race going.
I think that the idea is to not have a standard library of ready made tree blocks to use over and over. What I do believe that they're getting at is "growing" trees based on the attributes that are put in. The more attributes that are in the system the more variety of trees can be randomly generated. They are also collecting data on the aesthetic appeal of the different combinations of attributes so that they can maybe make a system that will group pleasing ones together to further refine the process. That way you get trees in games that are random, "grown", and no weird combinations of say deciduous leaves on conifer type trees. It's still pretty new software and does't look all that great, but like any project give it some time and I think you may be surprised by the results.
Fascinating huh? Kinda makes the Microsoft, Linux, BSD, Apple, GPL2, GPL3 flamewars seem pretty insignificant. Not only in the figurative sense, but literally as well since that cloud is immense and very hot from all the matter/antimatter collision.
As I've told many people the PSP isn't really worth owning unless you load custom firmware and your own applications on it. The functionality is immense, for instance I can read books, stream video from my PC to my PSP, play homebrew games, backup my games to SD, rip my PS games and play them, SSH, and quite a bit more. I actually think that I would hate the device if I couldn't load custom software on it. Anyway, back to actually working.
I agree with you quite a bit, they really don't take advantage of the power of the internet yet. I'm sure that a system could be devised where constituents of a district could vote on an issue which would be interesting. I say interesting because then in order for the politician to push the issue the way he/she wants they have to actively campaign for the issue instead of just go whichever way they want. That system also rewards the people that are active in politics since they'll have the most say about the issues at hand. Another benefit that I see is that it makes it easier for people to vote on an issue, they don't have to go out of their way. I'm going to leave this half finished and let the discussion do what it does best and run with it.
Good job making assumptions about someone you don't know. In that vein I could say get out of the basement and wash your face, but I'm not going to. I was just trying to bring a little brevity to a discussion that is bound to be a flamefest, however I see that my humor is lost today. Anyway, how about you don't assume that someone is uneducated based on a couple of sentences. I never said that I disagree with what he's saying did I? I also never said that I agree because for the most part I don't really care all that much. Now go be a jackass somewhere else please.
I wish that Sony would learn that with the PSP. I have mine loaded with custom firmware and I love it. There are so many more features available when I'm not locked into Sony's crap. I can stream video from my computer straight to it, I can read books on it, it has SSH now so I can mess around with my fileserver anywhere that I have a WIFI connection. That's just the tip of the iceberg too, there is just so much more that is available for it now that it's opened up no thanks to SONY. I'm sure that there are a ton of consumer devices out there that would do well with similar treatment. Really what does the company stand to lose if they let people write programs for it, they can get ideas from these programs and even have the good ones sponsored on their websites. Sure there are some people that will try to screw you, but since you are loading something not endorsed by the company that made the product that's a risk that you take. Emblazon that across the device at purchase time and even your most ignorant buffoon will have no recourse should they break it with software. I apologize if my post rambles a little, it is after all very early in the morning.
I applaud your mettle for using the word medal when you should have used metal. I love words, they're so much fun to play with...maybe I should get a pet.
This, while maybe exageratted(probably not, but I have to give the benefit of the doubt as this is just a one sided view) makes me very sad to live here. The spirit of the law is a dream of the past.
You know, I lived in Northern Michigan for 18 years and never once owned a truck or SUV. I got by just fine with snow tires and two wheel drive. I would laugh at all these idiots sitting in the ditch with their truck because they somehow got the notion in their head that they were invincible because they had 4X4, ABS, and TCS. They key thing that they all seem to forget is that 4X4 is nice for getting up and going, you can't stop any faster, and when you lose control of a 4X4 no amount of fancy driving is going to save you. A front wheel drive however will usually pull out of a skid if you turn into it, the opposite for a rear wheel drive.
Mostly what I want to see is anything that minimalizes the risk of doctors getting a malpractice suit. I'm so tired of seening those since very few of them are actually malpractice and just human error. I hate that people try to sue the very people who are trying to save their lives, it makes me angry just thinking about it. I think that part of the problem there is how the industry is run anymore, there isn't a very deep rapport between the doctors and the patient. For instance when my wife went in for C-Section (huge babies) if something happened to her or the baby or both it would never cross my mind to go after Dr. Y since I have a rapport with the man and know that he would do everything in his power to save them. I guess that comes from choosing the more expensive PPO so that I can get to know my doctors.

As soon as we finish compiling it
This is all that needs to be said.

Another good one is maxconsole and the forums there.

Does that whole summary reek of smug? Or is that troll that I smell? Ahh I got it, a troll driving a Prius that explains the troll stink and the smug.

You mean to tell me that we do not have our daily Two Minute Hate?
