Are there any good VPN services based in Canada? I'm sure there are but perhaps not free ones (with sufficient bandwidth).

legally viewable here? IANAL but if a show is not available by traditional means (TV) then I personally think that is "fair use".
Unfortunately what I "think" means SFA to a lawyer/judge.

People like Skip James played "gospel covers", just like Led zep play "blues covers".

  4. 100% voting population (almost) on Australians Running On-Line Poll Based Senators · · Score: 1, Insightful

The SOL party appears to be truely pushing a Democracy, i.e. everyone votes on everything for their one vote. One of the problems with a Democracy is if the majority of the people voting (or the population majority if you have 100% voting population) are pushing one particular issue, be it racial issue, public floggings, etc., that issues wins, no questions.
FYI - Voting in federal elections is compulsory in Australia. As an Australian I wouldn't want it any other way, having any section of society branded as non-voters simply gives their government a mandate to ignore or abuse them.
Any comparison to a political system that doesn't have compulsory voting (as many people have done here) is basically pointless.

I have a gun, the door is padlocked; no, I don't think I need to trudge to the other side of the map to get the key, thanks.
Have you ever actually tried shooting a padlock with a gun? (hint: it doesn't work like the movies).

Most gamers don't want more realism, they want more hollywood. This is a perfectly valid opinion as long as you recognise it for what it is.
Does anybody really want to lose health points or accuracy or whatever because their character is dying to take a shit?

So the /. readership (and presumably facebook) seems to be OK with a group called "fuck Islam".
This is fine but it does make me wonder if these same people would be OK with a group called -

"Fuck the Jews - Hitler was right"

    or

"Fuck America - Bin Laden is right"

People tend to think that free speech is fantastic, but only when they agree with what is being said, perhaps I need to be in the "fuck everyone" group.

  8. WWF WTF on Using Google Earth to See Destruction · · Score: 0, Offtopic

The World Wildlife Fund is please to be working with Google to showcase its projects. The WWF wants to do a smackdown on those who want to harm the world's wildlife. They seek to put a choke hold on companies who negatively impact those habitats. And the WWF strives to clothesline any legislation that will further endanger the most innocent of creatures on this planet. Yeah, the wrong company won that name dispute.
awwwww c'mon mods, that might be offtopic but it's at least a little funny.

  9. DVB (or ATSC?) with rabbit ears on Billion Dollar Handout To Upgrade TVs · · Score: 1

In Australia at least, rabbit ears work perfectly with digital set to boxes as long as the reception in your area is good enough (if it was adequate to watch analogue TV with before it'll work perfectly with digital).
Our (DVB) digital channels begin higher in the spectrum than their analog counterparts. By having a digital antenna you can avoid impulse noise (interference from car ignitions, light switches, fridges, etc) simply because your digital antenna cannot pickup the lower frequencies where the impulse noise exists. Rabbit ears are still technically usable (if you have a strong signal) but they've been basically obsolete since Jan 1st, 2001.

If you've been using rabbit ears then you have a very good signal and have never experienced the joy of having your ears ripped off by a massive audio glitch. :)
