No surprise people don't understand a privacy concept as simple as this; when one considers the overall public acceptance of the Patriot Act. Oh dang; now I expect to receive a visit from the spooks and day now...

A better way of preventing cookie tracking in FF: View cookies set from time-to-time and remove those which are obviously related to ads and tracking domains, you can tell by the domain name, ad.yieldmanager.com for example. By doing this you will automatically add domains you do not wish to set cookies to the exclusions list while at the same time ensuring any site you visit will work properly upon first visit. After a few runs though this process you will have caught most of them. ;-)

Agreed, this person was probably a frustrated person who has tried to report hacked accounts to eBay. I personally have found myriad hacked eBay accounts being used in fraudulently by at least a single individual trying to scam money. I reported these findings to eBay who did nothing as far as I know as it is extremely hard to even report such occurrences based on the limitations imposed by the eBay contact pages. eBay is rife with fraud and hacked user accounts. Buyer definitely beware.

  10. The Plain Truth on Cory Doctorow's Fiction About An Evil Google · · Score: 0

As most of us are aware; many are what they say they are not. I for one will not be surprised when Google is eventually found to be evil. It is a business collecting, storing and analyzing vast amounts and will eventually reach a point where it has collected more data than all intelligence services. With such a data store, Google becoming evil is as inevitable as death and taxes as the bottom-line is; humans run the show.

  11. More Dino Theory - T-Rex Hopped on Velociraptor Had Feathers · · Score: 0

For quite a while now I've had a personal theory, unproven but intriguing nonetheless, that they way some dinosaurs moved is portrayed incorrectly as well. My theory is that many of them hopped instead of walked. Consider the T-Rex. If you really consider the T-Rex's physical characteristics you might start to wonder how in the heck it walked at all. Its body is not built for movement one leg at a time; it would be off-balance. Scientists counter this notion by saying it used its large tail to help it balance. I agree with this notion, however I find it much more likely nonetheless that the T-Rex hopped; not walked. By hopping instead of walking the T-Rex would be much faster and far more agile than if it tried to walk one-leg-at-a-time. Before you scoff at this idea consider a comparison between a T-Rex and a Kangaroo. Essentially a T-Rex is a huge Kangaroo-like lizard. ;-)

Where do these people find the audacity to discuss the morality of blocking web advertising? A better discussion would be the morality of taking something provided for free, the Internet (anyone remember the early 1990s?), and not only trying to make money off of it, but trying to force the issue and do away with the original intention of the platform! The FREE exchange of information and ideas. My $0.10

  14. Please change strategy on Music Execs Say Apple's DRM Hurting Industry · · Score: 1

DRM will never work. What the industry should be saying instead of, "Don't Steal Music." which essentially accuses all customers of being crooks is instead say, "Please don't share music with strangers." I am 44 and have always shared my music among friends, making mix cassette tapes back in the 80s and now MP3s today. I have no interest in giving or receiving music via anyone who is not my friend. The question is why would you in the first place when you won't even let a stranger into the lane ahead of you on the freeway?
