    I have a few points, too.

    If one of his rulings can be thrown out, why not the others?

    I agree that the judge was psycho in his comparisons, probably all part of the plan.

    I think the 'spokeswoman' was Mrs. Jackson.

    whats up with the damn posts that are getting moderated into my view? i would like to complain.
    could someone point me to the end of the line? hopefully i don't have to walk past too many more brainless posts before i find out information related to the ON TOPIC question of whether tech companies are socially responsible.
    OF COURSE IT DEPENDS ON THE COMPANY MOSTLY.
    the question is: the industry as a whole, what is the situation like?

    yeah, apparently it is this fancy software that makes it possible to 'share programs' (direct quote from some guy from some radio music magazine. dumbass) of music between college dorm rooms. it's all tom petty and that kinda music though. i saw some crystal method, which is good for all those ecstacy freaks at college. but it's all legal, they were talking to the head dude at USC and he even said so. -my report on dateline's "NEWS" they should call dateline "news for sheep, stuff that's lies" hehehe.

    ds20. make me laugh. that's like the crappiest alpha there is. thats like me giving a panhandler a penny.
    compaq is the enemy (i'm typing on a compaq keyboard, using a compaq mouse, on a compaq deskpro p2 box, with sessions open to two different alphas (both better than ds20, i don't have a session to that server open right now) using m$ft software all around (except vms).

    compaq is the biggest computer company in the world (yes, bigger than 'big blue'), they make me CRINGE!!!
    but then, i'm at work right now so it can't be all that bad...

    i didn't think so. we've got a good argument for why there shouldn't be taxes, but they're the government. it doesn't matter what we say. mainstream media will just make it look like 50/50 and make everyone feel stupid for not wanting it.

    hahaha. this reminds me of a time in about 1995, when the (canadian version of) The Discovery Channel had a live online chat on the internet, possibly with some scientist or something, but possibly just with the web-happy lady (mara/nara/mala something like that)..
    anyways, it was live on tv, and they were showing the real-time chat on the tv.. i was sitting at my computer at the time, so i joined the irc channel.. suddenly someone started posting a bunch of anti-micro$oft stuff, and they discontinued the live chat, "there is someone ruining it for everyone else here, by forcing their views on everyone in the channel" hehehe. they didn't even call it a flame or a flood or anything, didn't have a clue! :)

    what i was going to say was: this guy is 78 years old. 78!! but the real kicker is that he doesn't know anything about computers, the internet or the digital economy. sure, he knows what it smells like in the cockpit of a fighter plane over italy in WWII, and what it sounded like when JFK got shot 6 cars ahead of him, but he should realize that CNN and MSNBC are not information enough to base his point of view on.
    i would say he should step away from the case, because he seems ignorant to the big picture.

    can you imagine the horror that the accused must have gone through? poor 'bloke' will probably be able to sue pretty nicely, though. what's the basis of law in britain, more like canada than california i hope..?

    but realnetworks are a bunch of nasty bastards, too. remember, they got busted for breaching generally accepted privacy rules a few months back, by collecing customer information after the fact?
    if you don't remember, look it up. it was big.
    but don't ask me what to do about it, i'm not a streaming video kinda guy myself. too busy doing other things. like hackin and listening to mp3s.
    besides, i find that streaming video/audio is more-often-than-not a pain-in-the-rear, and/or choc-full of ad-verts. heh-heh-heh.
    and isn't that what our giant hard drives are supposed to be for? high speed internet connections are made for DOWNLOADING, not streaming. why stream once when you can hold on for ever?

    but now that the GNU is around, bill gates is old.
    he did what he had to do in our effed-up society, to get to the very top.
    i love the line, "people are not getting rich selling software" or whatever the exact syntax was.. it's just so funny that the richest man to ever walk the planet once said that people couldn't get rich doing what he got rich doing. the richest, in fact.
    he accomplished, humungously, what he once declared was impossible. imagine that! imagine that twenty years from now, i could be in court because my company is about to be disbanded because of my horrible business practices, and it's all based on me saying today "people just can't get rich from selling home videos", or something..! damn that's just too much!
    but i bet i'm one of the only /.'ers who has ever said 'bill gates is my hero' and meant it.. but not for the illegal/immoral stuff he did, or the crappy software he peddles, just for his big huge balls.
