If fracking gets shut down then gas prices will shoot back up IIRC, and there's a LOT of people trying to get fracking stopped. That being said my preferred set up would be a core of nukes providing a baseline with renewables providing most of the power and fossil fuels providing coverage when the renewables fall short.

    2. There's several designs that either leave very little spent fuel or leave the fuel in contained chunks that are easily disposed of, additionally there's reactor designs that eat the spent fuel from other reactors and spit out less dangerous waste. The problem with waste is not a technical issue from what I've seen, it's a political one.

    3. I'm not really even talking about increasing output, that would be simply a nice side-effect, we need to build new reactors because the old ones are crappy, less-safe designs that are near or past their projected lifespans. Replacing them will allow us to improve safety, reduce waste production and increase output all at once.

The problem is that energy consumption may be flat, but our population is still growing. I've heard claims that we'll max out at around 9 billion and then decline as more and more countries develop and the tendency of developed nations to have lower birth rates takes hold, but in the meantime we still need power and while renewable is great nuclear is more reliable and simpler to meet the demands with.

In fact if anything they're more of a risk since they have training and experience. Would you argue that someone heading an anti-government militia agitating for revolution shouldn't be watched solely because they were in the military? If so, why?

That's actually a somewhat amusing thought, a vast, worldwide conspiracy to oppress and control, the reason they do it is because that's what they were trained to do when they joined the conspiracy, but no one remembers why, it's just what they've ALWAYS done. I can see a movie where the hero confronts the head of the conspiracy and demands to know why and the villain explains how, then the hero demands to know WHY again, and the villain looks confused "I'm not certain what you mean, there always needs to someone in control of the government, I mean, how ELSE would things be?"

No, the request is to admit that there's no conclusive evidence, which is factually true. The reality is that a rape charge is a life-destroying thing, so if there's no compelling evidence that a rape even took place (since it didn't) we shouldn't throw the guy in jail for something without compelling evidence. No one is defending him for attempting to rape her and its disingenuous of you to claim that we are, rather we're RESPONDING to the people saying he should be treated like a rapist with the observation that there's not enough evidence to do so, the ONLY thing that there's evidence for is that there was an altercation and possibly petty theft.

Insofar as it makes her the more credible witness yes, however thievery does NOT imply sexual assault. Her word is NOT enough for a conviction even if he's not a credible witness and she is (at least in a sane world), all that can likely be proven with the evidence we've been presented with is that he's a thief and they had a fight. There's no proof of who started it and there's no evidence that I can tell of sexual assault.

To be clear I believe she's telling the truth, but the chances that it can be proven to an extent that warrants an arrest, much less a conviction, are very low. Based off of the evidence that's we've been presented if I was on a jury I would acquit because there's nothing conclusive.

True enough, doesn't really help though. They have reasonable suspicion that there was an altercation between them and that the guy is a thief. However there's unlikely to be any way to prove who started the violence, and if there's no reasonable way to prove that then a trial won't do anything anyway. It sucks because I do believe that she's likely telling the truth (as well as a witness can at least), but in the end I don't think there's enough here for the cops to go on past petty theft.
