Well there goes the enviable job of hall monitor.

While this technology might have it's uses in some of our more unruly schools. Only the well funded schools will ever be able to afford it.

What school which has that many uncontrollable students is going to be able to afford it.

The money would be more likely spent hiring security guards, and teacher's aides.

I think Japan does understand US motors, probably better than the big three automakers. Toyota (1st Quarter of 07) has outsold GM in # of autos The 07 Camry is : American Designed American Built Has higher percentage of American content than any comparable offering by the big three 2007 Motor Trend Car of the year Toyota has also made a profit where all of the big three have posted losses for first quarter I don't know how much proof you need. The points you make may have been valid 10-15 years ago but the auto market has changed since then. BTW Toyota US division has very happy workers, Toyota offers lifetime employment and hasn't laid anyone off since the 50's.

  6. where to begin on Creating a Homebrew Industrial Process Monitor? · · Score: 1

Are you trying to monitor energy usage or provide more advance controls to the furnace? For control: first I would find out the specs on those valves (mfg, inputs, outputs) find out if the mfg has a control board and what interface it uses. Otherwise a PLC is one way to go, and usually can you can get i/o that will work in most applications. Start at one piece at a time. An industrial PC could work too. For Energy usage monitoring I would start by sub-metering the furnace's gas and electrical feeds. They have whole product line around this. Call some vendors and get a demo

The major problem with TFA assumptions is if word got out about a specific ISP actually trying to extort mney in this way, their entire customer base would jump ship faster than you could blink. How many people would stay with an ISP that may be imposing artificial limits on bandwidth? Most areas have more that one choice in broadband providers, and I doubt anyone would jeopardize their reputation doing this.

I worked with some industrial PCs back in 98, and they came equipped with solid state hard drives. They were around 120 MB, but the could load Win 98 in a few seconds. They solid state technology was important in that application, because it was highly resistant to shock and vibration. They could withstand like 80 g's of shock. Is there any reason that solid state cannot ultimately replace the current HD technology? It seems like a logic progression. Horses to Automobiles Propellers to Jets Vacuum Tubes to Transistors.
