No, it's most likely not illegal in "many parts of Europe".
Anti-government rants and other forms of free speech are even more legal where I live than they are in the US, you just aren't allowed to make threats under the guise of liking to dress up as a ghost...
And as for "hate messages", reading those is not illegal here but the person legally responsible for publishing them would be committing a crime. Who that would be is an issue I don't feel qualified to answer since IANAL.
Perhaps some people in the military work with things that don't require them to be able to know the difference between 5.56 mm bullets and 7.62 mm bullets? Those are just small parts of some of the tools used by those who work for those who hand out the orders given by those who are given orders by those with the "real" power...
The AN-225 was not misplaced. It's location is known, it flies transport missions for some company.
I never said it was. In fact, I remember hearing something about there being plans for it to be brought back into service but that they first had to get it approved since it had previously been classified as an experimental military aircraft, didn't know that it was actually in service again though.
The company is Antonov airlines btw, a descendent of the design beauro that designed the plane IIRC..
I think that this may be related to how a lot of services online seem determined to make you jump through a dozen or so hoops before you get your account, so if you don't have an account and just want to tell a friend that has one to meet you somewhere (or you've got ten minutes to waste) then it's easier just borrowing a friend's account.
It's sort of like checking out books at the library using a friend's library card because you're not in the mood for filling out forms.
I'll agree with this, this is one of these things I can still have problems with when using some new software or simply a built-in shell command I've never used before, all the examples of how to use it seem to be "somegnucommand -d 5 -frtvp -s 7 data infile outfile", which is slightly annoying when it turns out that in order to do what you wanted to do all you had to type was "somegnucommand data infile outfile" or even simpler yet...
Yes, that was a bit annoying, I normally assume these sort of mails are frauds until proven legit, and the links are an easy way to mark something as a fraud, now I had to examine them a little more closely to be sure which ones where legit.
Uhm, Europe is not a single country, there are many different countries and the school system is different in almost all of them. I spent a semester at a french university, one of the more prestigous ones even, and that was the worst semester of university I've ever had. It felt like being back in fourth grade, do as the teachers say or get yelled at, and don't even consider hanging out in uni buildings between lectures...
The fact is that they are very useful for small data transfers. If I'm late one morning and need to work on a document on campus, it's faster to bring it with me on a floppy than to negotiate a secure FTP connection which is often slow.
Are you saying that it's faster to find a working floppy and copy the files to it than it is to run sftp somehost.youruni.edu, type in your username and password and put filename.tla? You must have a really slow internet connection...
Also, I always giggle when people burn a 1 MB Word document on a 800 MB CD-R to bring it to work.
I believe that's what you have CDRWs for, I haven't found a CD-ROM drive that doesn't read those in a couple of years..
Kind of, I've found that many older floppies (even some old 5.25" ones) I have work just fine. As an example, I recently went through my old warez floppies from the early 90's, most of them worked just fine. But it seems newer floppies aren't exactly made with quality in mind, probably because the manufacturers are competing to continue to offer the same prices as before but with less floppies being sold this is hard to do without a decrease in quality..
However, if you live in a town with at least a couple of thousand inhabitans then chances are you can get ADSL (most likely 512/384, don't know if they've rolled out 8Mbps ADSL in the smaller towns yet..). Hell, I had 10Mbps when I was living in Östersund, population somewhere between 50k and 70k IIRC..
A contributing factor for this is government subsidized fibre all over the place, and I've heard rumours of them laying down fibre every time they replace stretches of railroad. And then there's the university network.
I thought those were three valid reasons to nuke us before we create even more crap..
Btw, you forgot about Roxette, A Teens and many others like them, not to mention that Max Martin (AKA Martin Sandberg) has created crap for "artists" such as Britney Spears, *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys..
It will just give you perspective on why certain decisions are being made in the real world when you go out and join it.
So "real world" = "business world"? Once again, some of us don't really care for the business side of things, if we can pay rent, own some stuff and afford to have a few beers on friday night then we're happy, we don't feel a compulsive need to always get the most money possible out of every situation...
It's human language, it can be a bit odd for a shutin, I know but bear with me here...
Basically, most college students who aren't getting four years of partying paid for by mommy and daddy don't have lots of money. In fact, a lot of them probably can't afford to buy a piece of shit computer to replace their old one with.
I'll take myself as an example, when I was studying I had a monthly "income" (student loans) of about $700/month, of this ~$350 went to rent and ~$150 to food which left me with $200 to pay for clothes, books and everything else every month. If someone had stolen any of my "expensive" stuff there would have been no way for me to just replace it like someone earning $2500/month could do..
If you aren't already thinking about it, consider getting a minor in business, or try double-majoring in business along with your primary degree. Figure out the registration system, and locate areas of overlap in requirements for your liberal ed and major classes.
Why? It's not like everyone dreams of spending the rest of their lives wearing a suit, some of us actually want to work in the academic world or care more about having interesting jobs than making the "best" choices based entirely on monetary concerns..
And in case you haven't noticed, just about no one likes the gibi-mibi-blublublu units that are apparently only used by 14yr-olds who are showing off on slashdot..
The problem here is of course that the spammers can just randomly generate new invalid HTML tags for every spam run, so in the eyes of your bayesian filter they look like different words.
Somehow I think this should be incorporated into spam filters, have a word list and check for common "spam/1337" spellings of these words, such as viagra = v1agr4 and mark all of these mails as spam.
Except for the fact that there are tons of people who registered a hotmail address just so that they could use MSN since they were unaware of the possibility of using non-hotmail addresses with MSN.
Personally I have moved to Trillian so that I can use both ICQ and MSN. The reason I "need" MSN is that those of my friends who are only barely able to notice a difference between their TVs and their computers (and only because they are different colours;) have all fallen for the IM fad quite recently, but most of my contacts in Trillian are still ICQ users although most of them also have MSN for the same reason as I have MSN..

Disclaimer: I'm european.
I'm not entirely sure that (Democrat+Republican)/2 = Middle, they both seem pretty damn far out to the right from where I'm standing..
