There are spam filters in place for the mail servers for LuDD but I still get a handful of "r0leX 1s Forever!!" spams every day, way to pick your target audience..
The oil-for-food argument doesn't explain the public outcry, only why a handful of politicians would oppose the war.
Also, by march 2004 only the UK, Italy and Poland have sent more than 2000 soldiers, I'd hardly call that overwhelming support.. In fact, except the US and it's 130k soldiers in Iraq there are only six countries who have sent more than 1000 soldiers, and a quick glance at the list gives me the impression that many of the countries sending soldiers are poorer countries who sent troops in hope of favors from the US.
Have you looked at what the rest of the world thinks about your war? Or what we thought about it before you even started it? You know, that whole thing about not going it alone like a bunch of "We've got to kill them there sand negroes, YEEE HAAW!!"-cowboys?
Not as important as having some kind of experience. Have you tried looking at job requirements these days? They expect you to have written every program since the dawn of time.
Exactly! When I was looking for a job this summer/fall I realised that those requirments are mostly bullshit, the job I got was one were I sit around hacking up ASP scripts, dodgy XHTML and CSS and they wanted me to be proficient at MS Access, MS-SQL, MySQL, C/C++, VB, C#, PHP and some other stuff. And I've seen job-offers for entry-level position that had "no applications from applicants with less than three years of experience in the field will be regarded" (or something similar).
I don't know about you, but if I've got three windows on my screen with just "you there?" then I'll check to see if the user is still online and when they sent it (timestamps = doubleplus good) and either reply or if they're away I'll just close the window since there was no actual content, it was just like how a well-designed computer program doesn't just start sending data to another computer assuming that the other computer is prepared to answer.
Perhaps they just don't want to be another one of the five gazillion people IMing you while you're doing something else, it's really annoying when you get home and find half a dozen messages that you really should answer but all the people who sent them are Away or N/A, it's (IMHO) better if they wait until they know you're at your computer. (There are a lot of people who are online all the time because they forget to set their status to away, and it was even worse around '98 or so when most people were on modem connections, with those of us on broadband showing it off by being connected 24/7, so a lot of times you don't know if someone is there or not.)
And what happens when you're on your seventh computer since you bought HL2, you've just installed Windows Spacehorn or whatever version they'll be up to by then, you install HL2 and find out that apparently the Steam servers are no longer active and you suddenly remember that thing you read about Valve getting bought out and dismembered by EA or some other company?
Care to be a bit more specific on what drugs you are talking about? There's a bit of a difference between stimulants, opiates, hallucinogens, dissociatives, etc., in short: we're not talking about the occasional joint, are we?
Uhm, just a quick off the top of my head and way too early in the morning calculation:
4.5GB = 4608MB T1 = 1.5Mbps (not sure about this, I'm in Sweden, we have E1 lines, 2Mbps) so 4608/1.5 = 3072 seconds per movie at full capacity which is the same as 51 minutes and 12 seconds./Mikael
Well, on planet Sweden I haven't heard of a lot of bank robberies lately, and the few I have heard of have all failed because they were commited by idiots looking for easy money or to fund their aryan war against whoever they thought was out to get them on that particular week. The well-planned large-scale bank robberies of yesteryear are all but gone since there are easier ways to make make money..
Obviously it's been a while since you used WinAmp, the latest XMMS really only sort-of looks like WinAmp 2.x (and earlier), and it's not available for Windows (and some of us are stuck on Windows machines at work so no "you can switch to Linux and run Visual Studio with Wine" crap please...)
It's the American Way(tm)! Property is worth more than people and intellectual property is worth even more since it requires you do something (think) as opposed to just invest your money in "safe" companies, wait a few years and then buy the physical goods that you desire.. or something, who cares anyway? Big Business(r) is our master, we must all bow down before our glorious masters, to question the masters is crimethink and those guilty of crimethink will be re-educated.
Photoshop is a commercial package for people who don't care about FREE software.
It's understandable Adobe doesn't see a target audience. People that don't care about FREE software, are probably using Windows or MacOSX anyways.
I use Windows + Photoshop (among other pieces of software, but Photoshop is one of the bigger reasons for running Windows at work) and I'd love to be able to run a native version of Photoshop on Linux (or FreeBSD, mmm,yummy..) but until there is a native Linux version that works just as well as the OSX and Windows versions then I have to keep using Windows for work...
Don't forget Tolkien's knowledge of nordic mythology, the world that men live in was called midgård (directly translated from modern swedish: middle-yard or middle-earth (yard as in backyard))
How was the country of Iraq a sponsor of terrorism? Are you talking about Hussein's PR-stunt where he gave money to the families of suicide bombers to get the support of fundamentalist muslims? because that's all I can think of right off the bat...
...but you won't find a lot of 18 year olds hanging out with 12 year olds (at least I hope not).
Ok, how about an older brother or sister then? If you're 12 and your brother is 16 and he managed to get the game through a friend what are the chances he won't let you play?
If Slashdot was based in Europe and did not remove hate messages posted on its threads, will Slashdot be liable for it?
If slashdot was based in Sweden then that would most likely be the case, there was (IIRC) a similar case involving Aftonbladet a while back before all discussions there became moderated, someone wrote some nazi crap there that a court found was illegal to publish and the publisher of Aftonbladet was from a legal standpoint also to regard as the publisher of all content on the website.
By the same token, some phones are "Java-enabled", but does that mean you can write your own apps? Hardly.
I have actually written several small apps for my phone, a Nokia7610, mostly just to see if I could. And according to the info at Forum Nokia it seems to be possible to also write apps for the phone in C++...

That's what I get for trying to carry on two separate conversations on irc and post on slashdot at the same time...
