Bandwith, like ram or processor power, gains new uses when it increases in power.
300 baud was fine for all text bbs'. Now with DSL, listening to the radio over the internet, and maybe some low quality tv- is fine. When people have much larger bandwith, they will find new uses for it. TV, videoconferencing, 3D, etc... Don't expect current bandwith usage to reflect opon future usage- users and creators will always, like a sponge, absorb all power they can.
I agree with most of your post, but you are simply incorrect when you talk about 3D.
You wrote: 3D cards have absolutely nothing to do with professional 3D graphics.
Have you ever tried to animate a complicated, textured, and lit character using a crappy video card? Do you rember SGI- they were used for 3d because they had the best video cards. Cards don't matter for rendering, but they sure as hell matter in the animation/modelling part of 3d. This is a problem for Apple, but not that big of one.
Also, if you can get me a copy of 3d studio max for Mac, I'd sure like to see it.
To end with a positive note, Alias/Wavefront just announced that they were porting Maya to OS X. No rumor, actual press release.
"WASHINGTON (AP) -- The consulting firm founded by Ralph Reed apologized today for encouraging ``a small number of individuals'' to express their views about the Microsoft case t George W. Bush, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee. The firm said it would halt the contacts. "
It's traditional microsoft public relations tactics.
About hiring Reed, the nytimes writes- "Microsoft's aim, the company says, is to curry favor with the apparent Republican presidential nominee,"
To do this, Reeds's firm would do this- "A series of e-mail messages from John Pudner, senior project manager for Century Strategies, laid out a detailed plan by Mr. Reed's staff and his contractors to recruit senior Bush supporters from around the country in an effort to undermine the government's suit. The Bush supporters -- and the e-mail showed that Mr. Pudner isscreening them carefully to make sure they are influential within the campaign -- are being asked to write letters to Mr. Bush saying they believe the government's case is misguided, and that the American people oppose it."
They get $300 a letter. Classy.

On the good side, the man in charge of the committee that approves justice dept officials is Orrin Hatch, a big microsoft foe. The state atty generals are also involved with the case- GW can't just fire them.
First, it seems as if the 20th century was the time of physics, but the 21st will be the time of biology and chemisty. How do you view this possible change?
Second, are there fundamental structures of the universe? Are quantum particles only a step as electron/proton were in the past? Are strings the end?
Third, will we ever be able to transform our conscious existence to a different form- from matter to a more maleable form? Is thought simply the sum of signals in a network?
Fourth, what interests you?
Again, thank you.

Apple was supposed to be bought be Sun a while ago. Nope. Ellison said he wanted Apple, too. Nope. Last year HP was buying all of sgi. Or maybe IBM. Now HP wants the workstations and Sun wants Cray ( yes that cray that lost 50% of its revenues from last year).
Have you looked at the movies of the new sony box? Do you really think you can do that on a n64? Impossible. These new boxes will basically reach the limit of need for ntsc, but the current boxes don't come anywhere close. After these boxes it's probably on to HDTV.
Wouldn't you like to see a Jurrasic Park Hunter game on a $400 box?
Gee.. maybe SGI's port of 64bit Irix to the Merced might be a 64 bit solution. Aren't Sun and HP also creating a 64 bit os for merced?
I believe Linux might be a non-denominational version that would be a base for attack from the unix vendors, but don't think these well established companies will just throw their own os/2 at linux.

An interesting article about fiber to the home is in this technology review article.

Like I said, good old Microsoft public relations- try too hard and get slapped in the face.

What do you offer Linux users who do not use VALinux systems?
Will you pressure more hardware vendors for drivers or source?
How many assests will you put towards software development?
Hey, buddy, could you spare a mil?
Thank you for your time.
