It puts the achievement into the right perspective. Outperforming a country with less than 4% surface (and similarly smaller number of citizens) is not quite as relevant as the headline wants to pretend. Whats next? "Russia outperforms Principality of Monaco in natural gas production! Film at 11!"?

This is actually a translation error in the german dubbed version of the movie, where for whatever reasons they translated "capacitor" with "kompensator" instead of "kondensator".

  5. Re:Easy solution? on How to Win on Ebay: Snipe · · Score: 2, Insightful

The reason why ebay doesn't extend the auction time whenever a new bid is placed is .. because you're supposed to bid impulsively. Extending the auction would take most of the thrill out of it. And that would make ebay less attractive to both buyers (who enjoy the tension and the thrill of sniping) and sellers (who achieve much higher prices this way).

In the early days when there wasn't only ebay, there used to be auction sites that use the traditional method of ending an auction ... and they all went away.

  10. What about the environment? on In Stores Soon: Perishable DVDs · · Score: 0, Redundant

Concerning using this technique for DVD rentals: Did anyone ever think about the consequences for the environment? CD-Rs and DVD-Rs are already a big problem, since they cannot be recycled, and generate a HUGE amount of rather poisonous waste. When "disposable" DVDs really catch on for rentals, this will make the pile of AOL CDs that end up at the waste deposit every year like a joke.

At least, 8 hours is plenty of time for ripping the contents and storing it onto some more permanent media :)

  11. This is unlikely to help RSI sufferers.... on (Nearly) Zero-Force Keyboard · · Score: 2

... since contrary to pouplar belief, it is not the force of pressing keys which causes the problem. Your fingers are built to grab, press and hold things, so this kind of movement is seldomly a big problem.

In fact it's the strain of constantly having to hold your fingers up above a too-sensitive keyboard to keep yourself from unwantedly pressing keys that causes most of typing-related injuries. If you want a keyboard that helps your RSI problems, get one that needs MORE force, so you're able to rest your fingers on the keyboard, relaxing the muscles and tendons on the back of your hand and arm.

A keyboard with zero-pressure keys is likely to worsen the problem instead of helping it
