You're wasting your time. The slashdot group think have spoken. Ubuntu is evil, it doesn't matter that this was placed in an alpha version to collect usage statistics.
Collecting user data from testing alpha versions of Ubuntu is to be expected. It's not wrong because you assume that usage statistics are being taken, otherwise what's the point in testing the alpha version?
It's only in the latest development version, you know the version they want you to test and get usage behaviour on. Wake me up when this is installed on the release versions then I might start caring.
In previous versions of ubuntu i've had to use the command line a lot. However, with each new version I've found myself using the CLI less and less. The latest version of Ubuntu, everything works out the box (including wireless) and I have only used the CLI to fix the sound from breaking. Hopefully I won't need to do that in the next version and then i'll be CLI free.
I have to agree with this viewpoint. Today I was trying to play penumbra on my Ubuntu desktop but the pulse audio sound was being directed to the wrong place. I couldn't load up the GUI app (pavucontrol) because penumbra is locked in full screen so I wanted to alt+ctrl+F1 into the terminal there and change it.
Problem is pavucontrol is GUI only so I have been unable make the sound work.
It's like if they were building a new court house and instead of opening the contract to build it to multiple business just kept giving the contracts to one builder without even looking which they've used before.
I'm sure you can admit that doesn't sound fair (or even legal?) so why do you have such a problem when exactly the same thing is happening in the IT sector of government. They should have given all competitors a fair chance to bid even if they eventually decided to go with Microsoft anyway.
Indeed. In fact wouldn't this even be incompatible with their own MSPL open source licenses which if I am not mistaken have patent clauses in to prevent patent infringement lawsuits.
You also clearly have no idea that charitable hospitals exist with the specific mandate to take in people who can't pay.
Here's a situation. You're dying. They can't find any information on who you are. The free clinic is 15 miles away while the premium clinic is 2 miles.
There's plenty more situations you could make up. Simply put, taxing healthcare allows people to get on with their jobs rather then worry at all about finance in an emergency situation.
There's these amazing technological devices called wallets that you can carry around. You can even put your drivers license and insurance card in them if you so choose....
So what happens when someone takes your wallet and stabs you, or you forget your wallet, or your insurance card falls out. If your version of a health system which determines if I live or die all depends on where my wallet is it's a poor system.
I want to choose how to spend the fruits of my own labor.
If you're spending money on healthcare insurance anyway why do you care? Either way you're spending the money so that's not a valid argument.
You can't even argue on price because with socialised healthcare you're cutting out the insurance companies meaning more money actually gets spent on/in hospitals rather then ending on up in insurers pockets. I fail to see why you're have such a problem with this but happily have a socialised police force and fire service. I mean who would want to spend the fruits of their own labour when they've never had a fire right? Health care is a basic human right however you're treating it as luxury for only those that can afford it?
I'm sorry but there isn't any argument you can make that's going to convince me that we need a Government-run health care system.
See your own example of how paying cash out of your pocket is so much less costly than using "somebody else's money" of insurance.
Your argument rests on the fact that the NHS won't pay for super expensive treatments (rationing as you put it) and your solution is that everyone pays for ALL their treatments.
The NHS would be doing great if they just ignored the patents on US made drugs and fabricated them locally. Paying drug companies 21,000 USD per injection is stupid and I don't care how research costs factor into it.
There wouldn't be any rationing if it weren't for your damn country overcharging us.
I'm looking for the facts, but all I see is you trolling about evil microwave death rays. That's about as much time i'm going to spend replying to your post.
If that's true then it's interesting however, I'd like to see the statistics on the likelihood that the subjects were able to guess correctly.
In phase 3 there were 26 participants which had a 1 in 6 chance to guess correct from 336 attempts with the device turned on and only 60 with the device off. Only half the participants guessed that it was on 50% of the time. Without doing the numbers this sounds like damn lies and statistics. I'm not saying whoever produced the paper is lying, just that they haven't considered what the chances are of guessing correct.
The paper also mentions that the device used for testing was in the room with the subject, this to me indicates that perhaps some subjects figured out when the machine actually was on. Either way without more papers that can replicate this papers results it's pretty meaningless.
Betamax seems like a good deal. I use voipdiscount. You pay around 10 euros and get x amount of "free days". Basically it's a count down and before your free days run out you can phone selected countries for 5 hours per week before being charged.
Apart from that I can't give you any other recommendations as that's my only experience with SIP providers.
The code makes linux run better in a windows VM. Why the hell wouldn't they try getting it in the linux kernel?? It would make all distros run better in a windows VM.
Your hate for a software company is blinding you. This Ramji guy works for Microsoft but he's done nothing bad to open source except submit a patch. Give the guy a break.

because it's in the development version of kola (the next version of ubuntu that hasn't been released) to gather usage statistics.

You obviously haven't played this game much because I HAVE seen most if not all of the things the GP listed as well.
No one cares about your views on DRM when you're pirating games. You're not valve's customer so you don't get a say.
eh, no. There are four CAMPAIGNS. Not four levels. Each campaign has around 4 levels so there are in total around 16 levels to play through.

He's probably heard of it but since it isn't even out yet it is as irrelevant as someone saying "problem X is already fixed in svn".

It's a shame that you're set in stone like that.

Really? Then why don't you try walking into the US army base they have in the UK and see what happens?
Nice try but if it's only poison to pests and not humans then it's not really poison is it?
Then you'll be unhappy to know that even organic foods have pesticides sprayed on them.
Pesticides are used in organic farming too. It's time to look at yourself and realise you've bought into a scam.
The pesticides used in organic farming are worse for the environment then alternatives. For more information see other comments in this article.
