  1. Netbeans and JBuilder on Java IDEs? · · Score: 1

    I've used the Netbeans.
    It's written in Java and very slow. It uses memory too much.
    And the UI is not well organized.

    Jbuilder is faster then Netbeans and runs well on my Pentium 333Mhz machine.
    It doesn't look like written in C/C++, though.
    I like its options for setting { } style, event adapter style, etc.

    I think the JBuilder is good and easy to use.

    Features I want?
    Java Applet Debugger
    Faster speed

    I think development env. should not be written in Java. Because it's too slow. It means that if you do something wrong or right, and want to check the result, you can't figure it out quickly.
    Sometimes, the change is not reflected although you do right. Then the slow respone of the IDE can give you confusion.

    :) Well.. yes.. the iPod has a 5GB HDD.
    But.. you should worry about "scratching" when you go out with it, because it uses an HDD.
    And it's an MP3 player. I think that MP3 players should be very cheap because the sound quality is not good. ( I'm a big fan of LP. )

    However the imation's Rip!Go drive looks good, because it uses 80mm CD, so you can copy CD track to it, store MP3 files, store your MP3 files on the CD and you don't need to "download" your previous favourite files again. :)

    It uses cheap 80mm CD. It can be used with Mac
    and PC. Wouldn't it be better than the iPod?

    Well, I've heard this since 2 years ago.
    It's great idea. I don't no longer to worry about
    bad vision. Paper is much better than CRT/LCD monitors for your eyes.

    But I wonder if it works great for fast-changing
    images like QuickTime movies.

    How much will it cost, anyway?
    I would rather pay for it even though it is twice
    as expensive as current CRT monitors than buy
    inexpensive CRT monitors. ( 17" )

    Will it be manufactured by Samsung, Sony, etc?
    Because Samsung is the company which has #1 market share ( including OEM ), if the product is to be successful, it would be great if Samsung makes it.

    Well, if codes are optimized for Altivec, will it be fast as Apple says? (700-something Mhz PPC is
    as fast as 1.5GHz Pentium IV? )

    Well, although I don't try it, but I'm very pessimistic on that. Because the Altivec, SIMD, is not for increasing general performance.
    Only if there are lots of array calculations, etc, Apple H/W will be fast as much as ....
    Uh.. slower than what Apple says..

    Hello.


    System wide CD-burning service which works just like file-copying is great.


    But is it really necessary? 3rd party S/W companies will do it. And please try reading this article ( from Slashdot ).

    Isn't it interesting? Same things are considered differently by Windows and Mac communities.

    Well, folks...
    I know that PowerPC is subset architecture of the Power. ( not Power2, Power3, Power4 )
    I'm not sure if current PowerPC processors have binary compatibility with current Power processors. Although the begining of PowerPC is similar to the Power, I don't think PowerPC architecture is identical to Power architecture.

    You can't say that Z80 is x86. ( Z80 is said to have binary compatibility with x86. )

    Does AIX for RS/6000 with PowerPC processors run on RS/6000 with Power2, Power3 without modification? I'm not sure of it.
    Is there any person who tried it?

    The log says that it's PowerPC, but on the bottom line of it, it says:

    machine : CHRP IBM,7044-270

    POWER3? I don't think Power3 is a PowerPC processor architecture.
    So, the log is confusing.

    iDVD and other things which are not functional is not part of an OS itself.
    So, the title misleads.

    Well, I've read an article which mentioned about Apple's fast boot feature in MacOS X.
    They want to have their OS on instantly.( after sleep? )

    But this Linux BIOS looks a little better to me.
    It's aiming for quick boot.
    Am I wrong?

    Well.. if it's under $1000, you lucky US customers, Solaris would be more popular than Linux. :)

    Anyway, I checked up the web site for the workstation. It has most of options like USB, Firewire, etc. So, I'm curious. How can it be that cheap? It even doesn't use Pentium chips.
    It uses SUN Sparc processor.

    Does SUN sell more computers than Apple? If so, why Apple can't build cheap machines? ( It may enjoy "Mass Production" benefit. )

    Well, "main process runs on server. To reduce load on server, GUI runs on client" would be
    better. And it's the X terminal.

    And here in Korea, with Windows platform, there are already that kind of products.

    The idea is not new. And for PC server hardware, I don't think it gives good performance.

    5th floor in this building, there is a network lab. And they use their Dell server that way.
    Performance? Is not as good as stand-alone PC.
    Even for doing paper work.
    Server should be very very very powerful because the numbers of users could be high.

    Oh.. Well.. again...

    When U.S. companies have problems in exporting their goods, U.S. goverment decide this kind of things and blocks other nations' capability, especially South Korea.

    Korean steel companies and semiconductor companies will have problems this year, because of U.S. goverment's act on them. ( Again! )

    Didn't the U.S. say "Free Trade"?
    Now a days, it seems to me that U.S. controls market more than Korea controls market. Hmm..

    Well, I tried it yesterday night.( in Korea )

    Good side of it is :
    - Language encoding always works.
    ( Sometimes, that of IE can't. For example, "Korean" disappears from the menu. )
    - Fast

    Bad side of it is :
    - the widget is not Windows-native.
    So, you can't change the font size of menus.
    - The font size for menus are too small.
    - The UI looks bulky.

    So, I removed it.

    I use MySpace and a SuperDisk.
    The pros of MySpace is that uploading/downloading
    multiple files and convenient file manipulation is possible.
    The cons of MySpace is that you need to be connectec to the net.

    My second solution is a SuperDisk. I think it's more reliable than 1.44 floppy disk and it can read floppy disks.

    Or.. if you need a lot more space, how about MO drive? As far as I know Fuji made one which is inexpensive.
    I personally don't like CD-RW, because it's not readable on all CD drives, and writing takes long time.

    Well,I read the article.

    I'd like to write my own mp3 experience here.

    When the first CDs were available, the problem of CD sound is that it's sound chilly.

    Actually, nowadays, I started to listen LP recording again, because CD sound causes fatique.

    Now.. the MP3.. it's worse than CD.

    Can't we have a digital format/encoding scheme
    which sounds as good as CD or LP?
    Is it impossible?

    I don't know whether it's possible because I don't major in signal processing. Can anyone please explain it to me?
    Well, compression degrades quality of sound, but
    can't we avoid some of the amount of degradation?

    There is a Web site for Darwin on Intel H/W.
    They say that they were successful with Darwin on Virtual PC on Mac.
    But.. Is there any way to put it on Intel h/w?
    It's different story.

    Well, although I've use Linux for long time, S/W management on Linux doesn't look as smooth as that of Mac or Windows.

    For example, although there is no package management program on Mac, you always have feeling that you know what you installed, and where they are, etc. But on Linux, although you know that, but you feel that something is not perfect and you feels as if you miss something.

    There are lots of programs are installed when you install Linux, but it's common that people don't know what are installed and what they are.

    I think any package manager or Linux file/directory configuration should address it.

    Isn't it strange that there is no "Installed S/W list" or something like that on Mac, but it's easier to track those on Mac?
    ( Windows has one. It's Add/Remove S/W control panel. )
    And.. on Mac, you can safely remove and copy your apps freely. But on Windows or Linux you can't.
    Especially on Windows. Mac S/W doesn't locate extension files on system folder except for when it's really necessary.
    Windows is not at the level of Mac in that sense, but file management on Windows feels easier than that on Linux.
    What is missing on Linux?
    Hmm..

    Well, I can't understand computer users' opinion when they say "borrowing your design without permission is OK."

    What if Hyundai made cars just look like BMW's?
    ( without permission )
    The SSANGYONG ( Korean company ) made a model of Benz, and when it sold in Korea, the shape of front side is looking different from the model sold in foreign market. Because the car has SSANGYONG as its brand name.

    When desing is for differentiating one product from others' products, it should not be copied by others.
    But if the design is not registered for legal protection, the owner of the design has no right on protecting the design. It's that simple rule.

    Computer users don't seem to think like that, though.

    Yes, you are right. The USB/Firewire is not buses on motherboards, but the Intel's new graphics serial bus is for on-board bus.

    Well, but why USB 2.0 is not suitable for DV?
    Due to availability of devices?
    I'm a big fan of Apple and their technology, but USB 2.0 looks more attractive than the FireWire.
    Apple should do something on this.

    Well, when I read an article on Willamette at Ars Technica site, I had impression that Intel is hasty because AMD follows very closely or even AMD surpassed the Intel. This and next year were intended to be 1.3~ 1.5 GHz chips as far as I know. But with that speed range, Intel doesn't seem to maintain its leadership. Wouldn't the 2GHz chip for that situation?

    Well.. Apple, Apple... although Mhz doesn't say it all, Apple's 500 or more speed G4 chip can't beat 1GHz or more Pentium chip. What are they doing with PowerPC chips? As far as I know many PowerPC engineers at Motorola were hired by AMD.
    If so, shouldn't Apple use AMD chip for their future? Why stick with the G4 chip?

    I thought about the topic several years ago.
    About 10 years?

    Well, what I notice is that the order of parameters and functions.

    If a Korean native speaker with enough time to orgznize structure of his/her programming language makes one, noun based programming language can be made.
    It would look like the OOP, though. Unlike traditional procedure based langauges, OOP based ones are noun based. Aren't they?

    But there are something which can be change.
    At least APIs have different order of parameters.
    Because, English has S+V+O style, parameters has that order. Korean has S+O+V order. Sometimes I had difficulty in getting familar with some API functions, because they are not intuitive to me.

    Well, it's very interesting topic. Isn't it?
