There is a lot of noise in the UK online community about this. There is a campaign to stop the Bill at http://www.saveparliament.org.uk/ which also has lots and lots of information and links.
OK, so they're voting "yes" any more, but they're hardly fighting back. What help is an abstention? Surely what we really want are "no" votes? Maybe it was just too much to do a *complete* turnaround...
OK, if it was decided that the G5 ad couldn't be shown, when are they going to get around to banning the STUPID Centrino ad they're showing in the UK at the moment? It shows a mountaineer halfway up Mt Everest talking to his kids using his wireless-enabled Centrino laptop. I don't think anyone has installed a WiFi hotspot up Everest, so I can't see it's entirely representative of the technology.
Yeah, OK, it says "service depends on availability of WiFi hotspots" in small letters at the bottom of the screen, but come on - the implication of the main ad is just ridiculous! Especially for the 99% of people who have no idea what it's all about.
It's a bit like the P3 (I think) advert that claimed that a new processor would speed up your downloads - that one got pulled fairly quick:)
"... a country with an average annual income of about $700..."
And some radio station is getting people to destroy computer equipment for a bit of publicity? What a waste! It pains me to see the rest of the world following in our footsteps, straight down the road of stupidity...
I'm a bit disappointed that Slashdot isn't closed - I wouldn't have missed it for a day or so, and it's in a good cause! Perhaps goes to show how interested the people who run this place are in the actual issues that we discuss here?
Oh, and the search facilities on RPMFind are closed as well.
"Search for "apple" on Google, and you have to troll through a couple pages of results before you get anything NOT directly related to Apple Computer"
The "more than one keyword" point still holds true anyway though - if I want apple pie recipies, that's what I'll type in. Google isn't some magic device that knows what you're thinking, you've got to give it at least a bit of information to go on.
Although, my girlfriend can never find anything on there, she always has to get me to do it - perhaps the idea of typing in exactly what you're looking for isn't as obvious as you might think...
Where are they? In the wrong place! According to last week's New Scientist (not online yet) both Pioneers are about 400,000 miles nearer than they should be, and they have no idea why...

If you're in the UK, join up and help us fight!
If you're not, wish us luck...

By that classification, I'm definitely some kind of monkey...
