I know it's been well trained into us Americans to be hyper-sensitive to anything such as this, but from the context it's pretty obvious that they are referring to language skills and not ancestry.
Probably the Japanese skills are required to communicate with Sony's big wigs and core PlayStation development teams, which are probably almost entirely composed of Japanese people. Perhaps in this context, being Japanese would be helpful as the language skills would be well established. ^_^
After all this coverage Doom 3 seems to be getting from various places including Slashdot, I really hope the game doesn't suck. By now, everybody must be convinced it's visually and aurally breathtaking (assuming you have the system to run it); I just hope the gameplay is as equally impressive.
Of course, I suppose I could just be bitter because I'll have to wait for the XBox version....-_-
I'm pretty sure this isn't anything new, but while building a computer for my girlfriend, I reseated an Athlon XP heat sink with some high quality thermal paste, and forgot to plug the fan back in.
When I booted it into Window, I let it run long enough to get to ~70C before realizing what I did and yanking out the power cord. It worked fine after plugging the fan back in. Just no one tell her, okay? ^_^
I suppose the weirdest place I've ever read slashdot was a year ago, when I was on exchange to Japan. I had my cheap yet spiffy, internet-capable AU cell phone. I would usually play with it in the bathroom since I always had it on me, and would frequently visit slashdot. That was a lot of fun; a long headline would take up the entire screen, so reading articles would take forever, but it was a way to get American/geek news wherever I was.
This includes whenever I happened to be in my girlfriend's room (quite often; she had a much better setup than I did ^_^), and nature called.
How's that? I think I managed to do 3 of the most popular slashdot answers at the same time; 1) girlfriend's place, 2) foreign country, 3) bathroom. ^_^
I agree with you; WEGA is a funny name, and I've always felt funny saying it. Especially considering the logo; it's composed of two interlocking Vs, which everyone wants to prounounce it "V-V-Vega".
Well, perhaps I'm the only one who has thought to pronounce it that way....^_^
Please don't tell me you're calling Super Mario Brothers 3, Yoshi's Island, and Zelda: Ocarina of Time crap, and claiming to be a Nintendo/Miyamoto fan... Especially considering the fact that these are some of the best and most popular games Nintendo has put out, not to mention some of their most original. Even though they are all "sequels" in the sense that they build upon already defined characters and worlds, each redefined their respective genres when they came out.
I'm not sure, since the structure of your last sentence is slightily confusing, but even assuming that the first games, Wind Waker, SMB3, Yoshi's Island, are the "roses", how can you classify Ocarina of Time a "thorn", especially since it defined what Wind Waker would be, excluding the cell shaded graphics?
I bought a 20 inch Sony WEGA flatscreen a few years back for ~$300, and have never regretted it. Mine is even one of the cheaper models without S-Video capabilities, but people are stilled wowed by it's picture quality and vibrant colors. The first game I played on it was Final Fantasy X, and my friends playing it started bringing their memory cards to my house, esepcially if they had a effects-laden boss fight coming up. ^_^
While not as technologically impressive as other choices, I'd recommend it whole heartedly for anyone who wants a decent price and excellent picture.
I thought S3 was bought out or disbanded or something quite a while ago. Is my memory playing tricks on me? Since when did they start making chips again?
And making decent graphics chips, no less. As someone who used a S3 ViRGE for much more time than anyone should have to, this is a certainly a surprise to me....
Really, I don't see why people continue to quote DailyRadar as a source for anything related to gaming and/or take anything they say without a grain of salt. DR has shown themselves time and time again to very nearly be a windup toy for the PS2, even as it continued to disappoint. It's laughable that they are talking about X-Box's launch to be time critical in comparison to a console whose launch that is arguably one of the worst in history. MS does not have a good reputation for being on time, but rumors of a delay are most easily attributed to Console Evangelists that display a religious zealotry to their chosen platform.
The games that are produced for a console are what really matter in the long run, certainly more than timing. Timing helps, but it is not everything. Perhaps we should wait until the XBox and GameCube have actual, physical existence before we try to argue the superiority/inferiority of console platforms.
CowboyNeal, you're the wind beneath my wings; the father I never had. Of course, I guess that would make you the kind of father who sleeps around, left my mother before I was born, and didn't even know I existed...but you're still l33t.
All these people PsyKe-d about PS2 emulation are full of Bleem! I feel so MAMED by the RAINE of Callus comments that it provokes me to RAGE. The IMPACT of this MESS is giving me a Genecyst on my NESticle...
In the face of Nightmare, pray for DCEmu...it shall guide you through the DarcNES...
And I used to think I was a hardcore videogame player... That's it; I give it up. All I'll ever be is a wanna-be. Time to remove my perfect Mame32 collection...
First, on the whole pop-culture-creating-psycho-kids-who-murder, I really hate how everything such as TV, Movies, video games, music, etc. is blamed for the Columbine shooting. If it really is popular culture, then we're all at risk. I'm sure all those politicians who use this to their advantage have never seen a violent movie, listened to a violent song, etc. They're not perfect, no matter what they think. "Gee, better watch out for Senator Bob, he just went and saw a R rated movie; he might go psycho and start killing us all" If that's true, almost every American (with the exception of newborns) is a potential killer. We should all just be killed now, and save each other the trouble. In the long run, this would save lots of money, time, and trouble. Besides, other countries would probably be happy to be rid of all of us "psycho (and possibly murdering) Americans". As for the Christian video game part, this brings up an even more interesting thought. I am a Christian, and I'm a bit intrigued by this. Do violent video games really affect people? I personally know a Christian who regular plays lesser violent games such as Goldeneye, and also enjoys playing the extremely gruesome ones, such as Turok and Turok 2. I'm sure he would be a Quake fan if he had a computer. However, he's an exemplary Christian. He volunteers all the time, is involved in tons of Christian events, has converted at least 100 people to Christianity, and is a youth leader in his church. I wonder what God's view on violence really is. He certainly doesn't shy away from it. Whoever has read the old testament of the Bible discovers that gets pretty violent with massive amounts of killing, incest, rape, you name it. Does this mean the Bible is a bad influence? Should it be banned because of its violent content? Is there possibly some kid out there reading the Bible and getting ideas like "Wow! All that pillaging and killing in the old testament sure sounds like fun!"? Well, I don't know. I just wanted to throw that out there.

Yeah, but Half-Life sucked; hopefully this won't.
Oh, my heart bleeds for them.

Umm...Halo 3?
Just goes to show that even using preview, slashdot posts are suceptible to human error (and copy and paste...)...-_-
Am I the only one who read this headline "U2 Threatens to Relase (a new) Album"?
I suppose I just need to skim less...
