  2. Re:There is no copyright on legal documents on Collapsed UK Bank Attempts to Censor Wikileaks · · Score: 1

Copyright only exists for writing that is "creative" in nature.

If by "creative", you mean fiction or poetry, then that's complete poppycock. True, you can't copyright facts, but you can absolutely copyright prose. So they are entirely within their right to try to stop the publication of a document to which they own the copyright.

The separate substantive issue was whether they can suppress the resulting news articles, and the judge ruled that they couldn't.

Yep - totally agree. If you are a MS shop, and have Server 2003 infrastructure (which you will), then WSS 3 is a free download. I have had great success with it for replacing a network file share for document sharing, and for replacing "Tracking" spreadsheets with Sharepoint lists.

It has basic sarch built in, and there is an upgrade path. IFilters are built in for the MS formats, and there is third party for non-MS formats.

One thing - Office Sharepoint designer essentially doesn't work. Just don't bother with it.

Nope. Citrix apps execute on the server side. Softgrid cuts applications up into smaller chunks (God knows exactly how) and then streams the required components to the client as required. The application is then executed on the client in a sandbox.

Similar kinds of manageability benefits as Citrix, but the execution is on the client.

Record the entire broadcast stream, and then operate a kind of private Video on Demand service based on all of the content that has been broadcast in the past N years. All you need is some cheapo commodity disk and some software like Promise TV with streaming.

As an aside, 5 million Londoners have an Oyster card in their pocket. Mine currently has about 80 quid of pre-pay on it. I am not in the slightest bit worried that someone will be able to steal this, and I haven't heard of this happening to anyone. They'll DBT for the first half og 2007, and deploy in the second half.

Open Office is a serious competitor nowadays
Have you looked at Office 2007 yet? It's the collaboration features that people are going to pay for.

After those statements, you simply say that migrating is difficult. Agreed, and that means expensive and risky, which is a good reason not to do it. Which is why the enterprise customers are not at risk of moving to linux on the desktop yet.
