If you'd bothered to find out more than what the media spued you'd know why she got 8 million for the incident.
Fact: The cup had the wrong sized lid resting on the top
Fact: The employee testified he was looking the other way when he let go of the scalding hot cup of coffee
Fact: The woman actually suffered, severely. As in 3rd degree burns
Fact: McDonald's (their lawyers) had promised judge after judge in case after case they would change their system to reduce the risk of burning customers. They never did
Fact: McDonald's own documents showed that "it would cost 8 million to change the equipment" but much less to "Keep burning consumers"

So the lawyers simply made Mcdonald's keep it's promise to "do something" by removing the 'cheaper to burn' incentive.

Absolutely nothing can be proven absolutely true or absolutely false. One can only be sure of the currently accepted facts. One of which is that the very definition of the word fact is not the same as definition of the word theory.

It is currently accepted fact that the moon is made mostly of rock. I have no reason to doubt it. Darwin's theory still remains a theory not a fact. If this upsets you greatly then by all means, you have my encouragement to do everything within your power to prove Darwin's theory.

Fancy equipment does not make a soldier smart. Leaders in empire a so arrogant that some types of attacks are just inconceivable to them. Look at the way the energy weapon resistant walkers are triped and smashed by logs. And the way Vader's Super Star Destroyer is destroyed when a single small ship flies though the bridge's front windows. This is not that unrealistic. The USAF began removing guns from all their new jet designs, they were convinced that jet plains were just to fast for guns to be effective against other jets or when the jets were fired upon. This was proven false time and again during the korean war and even early in the vietnam war, jets were shot down by such 'lowly' prop plains as Spitfires, Mustangs, Jennies, Triplanes and Zeros

The armor's 1st function is a uniform to dehumanise the wearer and reduce his appearance to his function. It intimidates victims, it also makes every storm trooper equal, they are less able to express individuality or emotion. Their voices are electronically modified to be the same for this reason also. If you watch closely, ever so often the armor does deflect an energy weapon. I don't think it was intended to deflect military grade weapons, rather it's just enough to protect against less powerful weapons that might be found among the civilian populations they control (rebals with military grade wepons was not considered a possibilty). The helmets do have thermal imaging, but the soilders are aperently not well trained to know when to use it. Note that the Imperial soldiers were once well trained and their leaders were smart. After they were so successful they got cocky, arrogant and lazy. Note that Han Solo and many other rebel pilots trained at the imperial academy before the empire became idiots

Actually people inside a spaceship would here a perceptible "whoosh" if something as big as an enterprise went by them. Space does have small particles about, a moving object will deflect them, an object as large as an enterprise would also 'carry' a cloud of particles with it due to gravity. Also there would be exhaust produced by the propulsion. All these particles striking another ship would make a sound within said ship. Note however no one would hear an 'explosion' sound, but would hear debris striking the ship they were in.
