    One last thing... There is a MAJOR quality difference when you are talking middle frequencies which our brain is most sensitive to. The music I listen to has complex ryhtmic devices, and the tears and harshness that MP3 renders, (let alone the AWFUL harmonic noise!) is unacceptable at any bitrate.

    Dont get me wrong, CDs are crappy quality too.

    As a professional Audio Recorder, with perfect picth, I notice a considerable loss of audio quality with
    • MPEG layer 3 compression sub 320kbs
    • SoundBlaster
    • x86 computers
    • I have studied the human brain response sensitivity to both audio and video, and, quite frankly, the quality and compression out there is shit.

    The duality (i'm assuming you mean # of processors) is based on a preemptive v86 mode, one chip handles bridges between devices, and the other caches commands (usually)

    Very simply, the Alpha system has created these boundaries that prevent end users wanting to just consume the software (which drives most markets)
