As a rule of thumb, I refuse to read these serialized stories. I may read the first in a series but that's all.

I generally agree but I like to check and see who broke up the book. If it's the publisher, as was the case with Lord of the Rings, then you're really missing out.

I don't think that's the case much these days. Authors enter into some sort of multi-book contract and then just churn them out. There's no incentive to make just one epic book. Nowadays, I find myself browsing book stores for the largest books I can find. If the book is greater than 1200 pages, the odds of it becoming serialized are small.

I can't say I agree. I've just finished reading Children of the Mind (again). It's so utterly forgettable that I couldn't remember reading it the first time. The first is the best in this series.

Don't get me wrong though. I like Card. I think his best book is Ender's Game, but I enjoyed Homecoming more than any other series.

Think about it, most of the people on napster are college students. I know there are a lot of others on there too but most of the users tend to be young and poor. They are also the ones who tend to love music the most, but they are also the ones with the most limited income in general.

I'm on your side, but your argument is flawed. You can't justify criminal acts by saying, "I'm poor" and don't be so sure that love of music fades after youth. There are plenty of people out there that are closer to 40 than they are to 30 that use Napster. I'm one of them. I typically use Napster to find older stuff of just single tracks that I don't feel like buying an entire album to get. So... call me a criminal. I speed while driving too.

What you're essentially saying is that nobody should ever release anything if they want to make any money off it, or retain any control over it.

There are bands that still manage to be successful and profitable without trying to control their product once it has been released to the masses. Bands like Offspring and Limp Bizkit have made it quite clear that they do not fear Napster. Just as the Grateful Dead did in the past, the Dave Matthews Band allows fans to record their concerts! Imagine that!

    Control is an illusion.

No I wasn't kidding. The "Mac's are for graphics" mantra hasn't been true for years. For example, PhotoShop for Windows is every bit as capable as Photoshop for Mac. The user interface within the app isn't any different. The hardware certainly isn't superior any more. What exactly makes Mac better at graphics today?

I don't believe there is enough market-share in the graphics industry alone to support Apple. There certainly wasn't enough to save Amiga.

You may not recall, but cross-platform compatiblily problems between Mac and Windows used to be a huge issue. At the time, MS$ Office was one of the few if not the only office suite that supported both platforms and allowed for easy exchange of data.

That $150 million that Gates threw at Jobs didn't save Apple. MS$ Office did... and Jobs knows it. He lobbied very hard to keep a Mac version in production.

The article also states, ...even if the iMac provided the spark for Apple's remarkable turnaround in unit sales, market share and public opinion, sales to its traditional core of professionals and power users remain the engine driving its financial performance.

But cubans are granted automatic residency and asylum as a matter of US policy on Cuba. Therefore, the whols custody case is now a US issue.

Where is the law that states this?

Isn't this in the realm of FL family courts? INS decides citizenship/residency issues. The Atty Gen deals with the constitution. The wrong parts of the system are involved here.

The Florida family courts have no business dictating parental rights of non-citizens. If the child's father were a citizen of the U.K. instead of Cuba, this wouldn't even be an issue. The father would have custody immediately. They held Elian simply because the United States is at odds with Cuba.

I have to believe that parental rights take precedence.

The question to ask is why did the father lose custody (in the Cuban family court system) of Elian? If he was abusive, then custody should certainly not rrevert to him if the mother dies.

Is this a question for the U.S. court system or for the Cuban court system?
