This hard drive will be a minimum requirement for the next MS Windows OS.

  2. Re:Lucky Canadians on Warner Brothers Pulls Canadian Previews · · Score: 1

This is all part of the MPAA's new business plan. The amount of heat it takes to heat a movie theater, especially the old igloo-type variety, in Canada's -40 winters is encouraging the industry to steer moviegoers into buying more dvds. To accomplish this the MPAA is hiring potty-mouthed punks to go to movie screenings to throw Slush Puppies and half-eaten Nibs on the audience. DVDs are the main money maker these days, and the studios want to downsize their marketing expenses.

This is absolutely appalling. The elites of the world are driving the majority of the population into poverty. Real democracy needs to be brought to the countries of the English-speaking of the world if our way of life is to survive.

The display on my 1st generation iMac in the 90s did this. Mac replaced it, but when the display on the replacement machine started to go, I sold it and went back to the pc. I haven't bought a Mac product since, but I do like the OS.

  5. Re:It isn't compleatly doomed to failure on Ad-Supported Free Music Downloads Doomed to Failure? · · Score: 1

The quality of files from Bittorrent and especially Limewire often isn't very good. Quality content supported by advertising is a good alternative when you consider that with Cool Edit for audio and Virtual Dub for video, it is easy to edit out the advertising. The edited files can be uploaded as torrents and will do much to improve the piracy experience. Har!

  6. Re:For Movies on Getting High-Quality Audio From a PC · · Score: 1

I got an old M-Audio Audiophile 2496 from Ebay for about $100 a couple of years ago. It's two-channel and has rca jacks. This is hooked up late 70s audio gear (JVC JA-S11 amp and HPM 60 speakers, also from Ebay). That old stereo equipment is far better than most of the stuff made today.

  7. Re:Why do this? on AMD's New DRM · · Score: 1

The only reason I preferred AMD was the lack of drm. The performance if Intel's product is superior. Why doesn't a company overseas develop a high-performance non-drm cpu? If I was running either Intel or AMD I would give Hollywood an ultimatum - no drm even if it means leaving the U.S. completely. Right now I'm experimenting with Xubuntu as I won't accept Vista or a newer drm cpu.

  8. Re:They may try and control the content, but... on Who Controls Your Television? · · Score: 1

I'm getting tired of these Gestapo tactics from the entertainment business. The real reason for their problems include the decreasing quality of the content, increasing prices, and the decline in our standards of living. Buying DVDs is only a little more important than a summer vacation for most people who are facing a declining real wages. Buying new equipment to keep up with changing formats is expensive. The consumer will probably bear in mind that the new formats will probably not last for long. The content is something the industry could improve upon. Good TV shows from the past are often only available on Bittorrent. The regular TV seasons are getting shorter. I can't remember pop music being worse than it is now. The quality of most pirate files is very poor, and most people who could afford an inexpensive alternative would probably pay if they didn't feel bullied and robbed by the RIAA/MPAA. Maybe the easiest thing to do would be to go back to analog, but Wintel wouldn't like that either.
