Give it a break. I play PC games (I leave the console games for my kids -- 2 Wii's so far, no PS3 or 360) so I don't really have an axe to grind. I have friends with both systems and have seen both in action. Graphically I'd say they were on par. And if you think Halo 3 graphics suck you haven't seen enough of it. Of course if you have a 360 you have a lot wider choice of next-gen games to see. Apparently 11 million or so people (give or take a few thousand and including about 6 million in the US) have bought 360s... and I don't see a stampede for PS3s. The only console still selling out is the Wii, and it doesn't really have that much appeal for hardcore gamers. My kids got it for Zelda and thanks to its "last gen" tech it is fully backwards compatible with their old Gamecube games. Fanboi rants aside, I don't see Sony losing the console war, but they don't look like a winner either...
It should be better than any current model in most respects (although the hard drive size is not mentioned). They are not talking about reducing the processing power, RAM, hard drive or graphics. The reduced price / heat production / power consumption comes from a shrink in the die size of the processor to a 65 nanometer manufacturing process from a 90 nanometer process. Looking at a number of the posts above, they seem to think "cheaper" means worse performance... it should mean better performance.
Actually it seems to be about them estimating the repair costs for the next three years of the console's life. Anyway you look at it MS has the best warranty of any of the consoles now -- one year on everything and three years on this specific hardware problem. Given the speed of the turn around and the free shipping it looks good to me. The PS3 isn't without it's share of hardware issues (including some overheating problems). Given the publics limited exposure to the PS3 you have to wonder if anything else will show up. It is a Sony product and that's usually meant quality but then exploding batteries are a bit unusual and Sony has had that issue recently... I haven't heard of any significant Wii hardware issue (yet anyway) and given it's "last gen" hardware I wouldn't expect too many. The remote flying through the air isn't a hardware issue of Nintendo's btw:)
