Fileplanet actually has very good download speeds, even when their servers are full. I routinely maxed out my connection speed back when I lived at my parents' house, downloading from Fileplanet.

Steam makes finding demos even easier (assuming there is a demo). Go to the game's page (easy to find), click "Demo". Downloads from Steam are also snappy - in the last week I've (re)downloaded several titles at 1.5MB/sec (and that's over encrypted 802.11g).

Standard disclaimer: I don't work for Fileplanet (or whatever company owns it), nor do I work for Valve.

Except for a few rare cases (C&C3), I refuse to buy a game unless I can try a demo first, unless it costs less than $5. I bought Peggle Deluxe because I got Peggle Extreme with the Orange Box. I bought AudioSurf because of the demo. I bought Bioshock because I tried it on my friend's computer.

I've been tempted to buy the Penny-Arcade game, but I can't get Steam to let me download the demo (some IE7 bug or something, steam:// isn't registered in Windows anymore), so I won't buy the game.

Back when I pirated games, it was primarily for lack of money. I didn't have much money, and the money I did have I didn't want to spend on a game I wasn't sure would be worth it. I used to do it once in a while to get around the cd checking (it sucks carrying around a CD case with my laptop just to play games), but now I just make an ISO of the relevant (purchased) CDs.

I'd help you reach through the tubes and take away my stapler if I ever said that. No, it's because I'm unfamiliar with svn's command line. My experience with Subversion is twofold:

Client-side, I've used RapidSVN in Linux (briefly), and in Windows I've used VisualSVN (briefly) and TortoiseSVN (extensively). I've never delved into attempting to do anything via the command-line.

Server-side, I've set up various repositories in both Windows and Linux, on the command-line. I'm fine there.

So maybe my problem is simply not being familiar with the Subversion command-line client.

I find the lack of a good, intuitive Subversion GUI a major roadblock to me booting into Gentoo instead of Windows. Call me crazy if you want, but TortoiseSVN is so much easier to use than anything I've tried in Linux that I boot into Windows just for that.

Anyone have any alternatives? I'd really like one integrated into Gnome (or KDE, I'd switch for this) the way TortoiseSVN integrates with Windows Explorer, but failing that I'd like one more user-friendly than RapidSVN...

I suggest you read the book "The Great Apostasy" by James E. Talmage (available for free here: http://books.google.com/books?id=yJn69K_Q0y0C). It details not just the fall of the Church headed by Peter in Christ's time, but how various doctrines were corrupted and shows how corrupt the Catholic Church was. Talmage provides many, many sources for his material.

Jesus said that to defend Mary's nice gesture to him; Judas said "we should sell that ointment and give to the poor" but Jesus was basically saying "it's ok to spend money to do something nice for someone. You can take care of the poor later."

This was shortly before his death, and he was about to go to the garden of Gethsemane to suffer for the sins of the world. Kind of more important than taking care of the poor.

So there's no need to insult Jesus by taking his comment out of context.

You seem to have missed the part in the Bible where Jesus prayed, in front of everybody, as an example of how to pray. He also prayed in the garden of Gethsemane in front of his apostles.

Prayer in front of others is only wrong if you're doing it so other people see you praying - similarly, Christ said that those who fast and act like they're fasting so others know they're fasting already have their reward. Praying in front of others is fine if your only intention is to pray, that is, if you do not do it for the praise of man.

I'm ok with people saying "the extra cost is worth it to me". For a lot of people, it is. Personally, I tend to treat my computers as if they're made of paper anyway - maybe I've been trained that way by using hand-me-down PCs my whole life, though that IBM Thinkpad I had was indestructible - so I prefer to save the money. I can understand other people preferring to pay more in order to have a more durable machine along with a nice OS like OSX.

It's when people deny that Apple machines usually cost more that I get irritated. Thank you, honesty is refreshing :)
