Word perfect had better WYSIWYG functionality that MS office at half the price. MS did the same thing to them they are doing to LO. They are intentionally programming incompatibilities within their software and using the monopoly power to lock other vendors out.

    You seem ok with this?

Look, I love GIMP. I work as a graphic designer and use it on a regular basis. But sensible defaults are not GIMPs strong Suite. Learning to use the tools are a bit clunky and it has a unique "unix way" application interface. Vendor lock in is the real issue. I literally hide the fact that I use open source tools because I have to fit in to my industry. That industry uses photoshop period. Its not about features, its about perception.

Classified truth, the wiki leaks debacle is more than egg on the military's face. I have family currently in Afghanistan who are directly affected by the douchebaggery of the Army intelligence officer who swore an oath to protect his fellow soldiers. He was NEVER on the front lines of the war and his opinion on how "things were going" is very limited is scope. He was wrong to release the documents to wikileaks.

As far an Assange goes having listened to his speech on the matter, I commend him for his bravery and dedication to the eradication of all war. This is commendable from an anti globalization point of view. While it is not my belief, I understand his point of view.

I also believe his actions have done irreparable harm to Americas influence, ability to conduct a war with an intelligence front and has directly harmed front line troops and their ability to combat our enemy in Afghanistan. I think it is sad that he would rather the Taliban and Al-Queda take over Afghanistan just to prove his zealous dogma. Let us not forget that he would be speaking GERMAN if it were not for America's involvement in WWII. I wonder how they would have felt about the release of those documents?

I don't think these two issues are related. BTW and it is a stretch and a troll.

WARNING idealism below, Do not read this post if you cannot handle it.

    #1 reason = OVERHEAD

The real reason games don't make money is the behemoth corporations controlling the industry and funneling the money into the hands of the pointy haired overlords. It reminds me of an article I read about 4 years ago about how CISCO did not produce a profit that year right before I read the article outing the CEO's compensation: 690 million(Sounds pretty profitable to me, how about you?). Overhead is a made up word managers created to confuse workers and hide the FACT that all of the money is going to them and not the folks who actually create these products. I.E. Overhead = Huge salaries for management.

I was using a ruggedized fujitsu tablet 8 years ago without a hitch running windows 2000 tablet edition. It did take a couple of days to get used to the system but It worked quite nicely for that form factor. Most of the people who complain about tablet interface play with one for 2 seconds then give up. The fact is that if you want a tablet to do real work you NEED a full fledged desktop OS which runs the applications you need. (We were doing county wide inventory studies) If all you want is a toy to check your email and surf/twitter, and you design your "OS" to do this then this is all you will get. I am not saying this is a bad idea, just saying that tablets have been around for a long time and have used them extensively in the field, I can say that they work quite effectively, at least for cad and image/video editing. True, I am a specialist with specific needs but the iPad does not appeal to me because it is underpowered and limited in function. Maybe its just me but what I want is hardware and a touchscreen or pen for more precise work. I will load the OS of my choice thank you, not some over thought limited hunk of garbage like the iPad.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but i would like to point out that the gud ol' USA was instrumental in helping defeat the soviets.... They did not build their own stingers... You miss the point of the war completely. We are not actually fighting anyone... just small skirmishes and limited operations to maintain a large military presence in the region in furtherance of our bullying powers.
