No Fu@king Way!!! ALL of New Hampshire?!?
You must be kidding. Seriously. All of it?
You mean some of it, right? You can't possibly mean All of New Hampshire?!
I mean, that's just mind boggling. ALL OF NEW HAMPSHIRE. That's huge. That's like at least 12 people.
I can't believe this was moderated up as interesting. It's flamebait!!
So here I go:
Nanotechnology will not cause the death of capitalism or democracy. Immortality does not negate the need for government.
A large group of people will always need to have a leader, and immortality will just make the groups of people who need to be led larger...
Governments in a nanotech world will likely become more like sheepherders, suggesting where people should go to live and what areas (of the solar system/galaxy/universe) are suitable for the spread of the human race.
Capitalism will thrive. Immortality will not negate greed, and eternity would be boring as hell without new discoveries/inventions.
P.S. As everyone will live forever, it's no big deal to finance someone on their super 3d plasma virtual reality tv for 1000 years.
No one complains when their Palm won't run Quake Arena. (well they do, but they shouldn't...or should they???) This chip is not meant to be a full fleged asskicker. It's not competing with the Athlon or PIII. It's in a market all by itself.
If this chip is not noticably slower when I surf the web or read email or such from my laptop, and does noticably extend battery life, then that's enough for me.
I bought a Dreamcast when it first came out, and So ul Calibur blew me away.
The graphics were fantastic and it was really fun! But the little I have seen of the PS2 games are not too impressive, graphics wise.
Of course games need to be enjoyable and playable as well, but lets face it, graphics rule. Anyone have a PS2 and care to comment on the current games?
(and obviously the games will get better as developers take advantage of the system, but it's been live in Japan since March, right?)
the producers got beat up
on
D&D Trailer
·
· Score: 1
and had their production money stolen
strangely reminiscent of their high school days, methinks
Note to producers:
if you're making a cliche fantasy/action film, you need to rely on good effect
"A method of using genitals or similarly shaped prosthetic devices to produce a series of initial physical and/or emotional responses that, when "stimulated" by another set of "genitals" or such in a predetermined order, either causes a relationship to be consummated or causes a series of predetermined transactions (money, goods, spoken word) to be forthcoming so that the "f-ckee" can receive all said items at the same time instead of having to perform a series of separate transactions."
Anyone have any experience with scaling webservers across different platforms? I'm curious about the difficulties involved in mixing BSD/Apache and Win2k/IIS. There aren't too many similarities between the two on fundamental levels (fs, security management, etc) so the Win2k servers really can't be doing much aside from serving the generated web pages, right? For instance, mixing sendmail with the MS mail crap can't be efficient, and unless all the email is stored in a DB or something one would need to be able to read mail from the BSD spooler and the MS spooler, which sounds like a nightmare. And if they're using Perl or something akin to it at all, then (as many know) it's not always easy making a cgi run on Win when it runs perfectly under linux/apache, etc. guess I wanna know if you really can mix oil and water...anyone done it?
/. apparently needs less strict posting guidelines... there have been too many comments in the past week with people saying "I posted this 3 days ago, and it's been on Ars for 4 weeks", etc also I remember the time (*sigh*) when there was a new story up here every half hour or so. I had to visit/. constantly. More news. Less moderation. (let's hear it. reply if you agree?).
Oh c'mon. Don't what if it's a 600MHz P12 (joke, but it proves a point). It's not the speed of your processor, it's how you use it. Also, the whole "spec" is about as vague as can be. MS is trying to rain on the collective Dreamcast/PS2/Dolphin parade. Of course, this is what scares me: ** Proprietary A/V connector ** could be harmless... could be MS trying to corner the cable market!
Apache hasn't cut into Netcenter's profits as much as the numbers would make one believe. Most of the Apache users (aka us) would probably not go buy Netcenter if Apache did not exist... we use Apache cause it kicks ass and is FREE. If Apache were taken away from me, I would not go out and buy Netcenter...I would cry and then get a XOOM page or something. I think MS's WebServer/IIS has cut into Netcenter's tangible market more than Apache. any thoughts?

This means that the project is happening.
It may never come to fruition, but it's in the works.
