  1. Re:Other browsers that work with linux on A Linux 'Browser War' in the Making? · · Score: 1

That exist may available web browsers for linux. However, (read: big however) many are either heavy lacking in features or just plain suck.

Netscape: Works with most types of web applications; POST method, java, javascript,...
But is it a fat monolithic process, total static and prone to crashing. Plus, it not very open.

Mozilla: Shows promise, but still in heavy beta.

K browser: Lacks support for many web apps; java, POST method, etc. But runs cleaner than most.

Opera, which, in my opinion, is the best available for windoze, will be my browser of choose for Linux, unless they fail miserably on the port.

In though it is not free, it least it will be functional and stable, I hope.

  3. Stock Market - Dow Jones on Slashdot's "Instant" Legal Analysis of the MS Ruling · · Score: 1

As we can all guess, MS's stock will probably pulmet upon opening on monday. Which, frankly, would be fine by me, excempt for one thing.

The Dow Jones average, often and incorrectly, is used as an economic indicator by many, many individuals and media personnal. And guess whose stock was append to the Dow Jones on November 1st, that's right, Microsoft.

Monday opening should cause a sharp, and artifical, drop in the Dow Jones Industial. Which can be safely ingored by any educated individual. However, me assumation is that many investors are not sufficient knowledgable on such things.

Thus trading volume on services such as E*Trade, etc. will be quite high on monday, as hundred of thousands of "E Traders" panic, try to cut their losses and end up losing their shirts.

All I can hope is that this will not cause some sort of idiotic panic, thus sinking everyone along with Microsoft.

  4. The scientific process on Linkage between Cell-phone Usage and Long Term Memory Loss · · Score: 1

Seems the Russians, and everyone else, used the scientific we all heard about in school:

    1. Dream up what it is you want to prove.
    2. Think up so convaluted way of "proving" what you wish to prove.
    3. Perform this experiment as many times as necessary until you have "proved" it, with "scientific error", which can be QUITE large.
    4. If all else fails, return to step 1.

I did not see any mention in the article as to how much/longer this rats had their brains cooked. Lipstick has caused cancer in rats, after the subject ate a stick a day for half a year!
