    No. Because the manufacturers still think that "It will run Windows" is the best advertising and marketing strategy. Yet, iPhone and Chinese derivatives are fine without it. All of them should rethink their market research. Most people need nothing more than a browser, email reader and flash on their netbooks. I can name a lot of people that are IT professionals and people that are IT unaware, that use nothing more. Those that need windows software, should just go for another device.

    Don't you get it? Windows EffingSucks was just too early! Loo at the dating pattern - 95 -> 1998 -> 3000. That means they released Windows EffingSucks 1000 years too early!

    You do know that upgrades are free? Right? And if you are a person that needs support and pays for it(otherwise you'll just upgrade), you will just hire one of the Linux hackers for support.
    If MS gave me free upgrade to Win7 from WinXP, I would definitely upgrade and they would not need to support WinXP till 2014.

    This implies that the farmer has experience with Windows. New computer users, will easily use Linux without even thinking of switching.

    Apple is a multi-industrial company. In mobile telecommunications market, they are definitely far below average R&D and have totally dropped off R part. And OP has directly sated that Apple does little R in R&D, so please "Now you want to divorce "R" from the "D"" part is a bit too late.

    Market cap is a lousy measure btw. By that measure, the giant that IBM is, is smaller than Apple. Apple is apparently bigger than Wal Mart, AT&T, Siemens and a whole lot of others. And marginally smaller than Microsoft.

    Wait a second. With the recently moved out networks division Nokia's revenue was 50bn Euros for 2008 and Apple Inc's was 39bn US Dollars. I believe your comparisons based on current share price are dead wrong.

    FYI: NOTHING IS FUNDAMENTALLY NEW.
    But look at it like at iPod and iPhone. All the technologies were available, but they are the first one to make it actually work well. Or better yet, look at cyclonic vacuum cleaner idea, steam power(at least since Heron of Alexandria) or photocopier(a.k.a Xerox) - nothing new, but no one thought about it.

    Why do you equate capitalism to free market? There are a lot of capitalistic countries/societies/industries where there is no free market.
    And since we classify IP as part of capital(see definition for reference), it would not be, in any way, capitalistic to abolish copyright.

    You must be an "incredible genius". With universal time, there would not be 6am or 6 pm, there would be 6 or 18.
    The biggest problem would still be with times of day, witch we perceive relative to the rotation of the earth. While it's lunch time in London at 13h, it would be breakfast time in Bejing, but still 13h.

    Matlab should be freely downloadable. Just look at how Oracle does it. Their software is mostly freely available, you use it to develop and learn and then you just buy it later on.
    In my country copyright is laxer when it is part of general education.

    A) If you use the word "IF" then it is not a prediction.
    B) On the other hand, Apple has a well defined strategy, that is exclusive and not inclusive. Having a lot of companies, might get Android to a wider range of audiences.

    Lots of companies bet their futures on Linux 5 years ago and are doing just fine, but has Linux surpassed Windows as top desktop OS?

    Offtopic correction: 5 years ago no one bet on Linux desktop(None of the significantly large companies). People bet on Linux server and that resulted in great success.

    Apple marketing is not that discrete. The will not call iPhone 4GXXX, they will call it iPhone 4GPorn. And it will have your favourite porn video streaming application installed by default :)
    Let us not forget that not only Apple made a deal with AT&T, but AT&T where the people on the other side. They have definitely something in there for their own benefit.

    It depends on the metric of faster. Lower latency vs overall performance. Java VM can outperform C program over a longer period of time, with more or less randomized data.

    The study would be useful, only if we printed our money without any regard to the amount of it. That is the basic problem there, there can be no lack of credit in virtual economies, while we know there can be one in the real world.
    Next, you have to transform most entities in the virtual world into entities in real one. Because, you will never have a raw diamond more expensive, than a well crafted diamond jewel in real life. Yet, in WoW it is usual to have items that are found raw more expensive, than those that are crafted.
