  1. Re:re Hard to decide ... on Microsoft To Offer Free Anti-Virus Software · · Score: 1

No where in the article does it say that Microsoft is bundling the software with its new OS. It will be just like Live OneCare is now except free. One of the best anti-virus programs (according to pc world) is free (Avast Home Edition). I still don't see that affecting Norton or McAfee. I mean Norton is still bundled with a lot of pc when you buy them. Judging by pre-beta comments from Windows 7 they have stipped all the arguable applications from windows and made them al-a-carte which is nice. I just don't understand why no one sues Apple. They bundle tons of software in their OS so why can't Microsoft do the same.

  2. Meh on FireFox 3.1 Leaves IE in the Dust · · Score: 1

The article compares Firefox 3.1 to IE7 which we all know has issues. Where was the side by side against IE8 beta 2? The only reason I choose IE over FireFox is the security problems. FireFox is known to have been much slower at fixing high priority security issues in the past. I do not mind IE with constant security hole if they are patched as soon as they are found. Once both are near final release i'll check numbers of speed again.

  3. Re:Page specific tuning on IE8 May Not Pass the Acid2 Test After All · · Score: 1

An IE specific tag does not mean that it can only run in one browser. The tag simply tells that browser which render to use if it is detected. Other browsers will ignore the tag. Its the same concept as having css which is rendered differently in one browser than an other. There are css specific hacks for certain browsers. This is simply a way of saying you can put this here is you want to...but you don't have to. By default it will render in the old IE6 scheme if you don't supply the tag. I honestly don't see the problem with this. It may actually help sites who refuse to support IE7 because of compatibility. they can now specify the page to load in the old fashion. This way the user base can use the new browsers security and still have older pages work. I am behind this and am looking forward to seeing how well it performs. They just need to get moving a little faster on css3 and make sure that is supported.

  4. No Winner on Blockbuster Chooses Blu-ray · · Score: 1

I don't see how this designates any winners.

    1. Both BB and Netflix offer both HD formats for almost all movies available in them
    2. Both formats have highly expensive players needed to watch them anyway
    3. 70%/30% out of how many rentals...not nearly the same amount as newly released DVDs...reason, no one has any reason to upgrade
    4. Most people don't have a home entertainment system worth owning the new HD formats.

For all these reason it doesn't matter what blockbuster, netflix, family video, walmart or any other place pick. By the time the format war is over they will have a new format available or will finally make all movies downloaded to a set top box like tivo at a one time price...this of course when they release the first 50TB (been talked about in the 5 year technology plan). Then you will never run out of space and you can buy any movie online for cheap with no late fees (ever)!

Until then I side with BitTorrent as the winner cause they have movies in any format you want!

  5. No FFXIII on 360 Is A Sales Disaster on Fallout 3, RE 5 in 2008, Final Fantasy 360 Never · · Score: 2, Insightful

Someone for Square Enix is definately going to be fired over this mistake of not releasing FFXIII for the 360. XBOX 360 is the current next gen console who has sold the most and continues to gain speed. Don't believe it...check out the lovely sales statistics from Austrailia (1 million games sold in 14 months, a new record for any console). Sure FF has been mostly PS exclusivebut with FFXI and the new FF on 360 plus many releases for other portable consoles recently it makes it only the next best move to add it to the last untapped platform. And why not follow the other games and their reasoning, like Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Ace Combat, etc. All have made convincing cases for reasons to expand to XBOX 360. There are also conflicting reports from Square Enix President and the developers of FFXIII who claim that they would choose the 360 platform of Sony because of the ease of development and cost.

So when they release FFXIII and its numbers suck they can only blame themselves. I know that the millions of 360 user would love to enjoy FFXIII...and perhaps a re-release of FFI on the XBOX Live Arcade...hint hint!

  6. Get Out More on CS Programs Changing to Attract Women Students · · Score: 1

I am a CS grad and about 75% of my friends are women. The key is not to dull down the CS course work but to simply GET A LIFE. Go out, break away from the PC and meet some people. It helps to enjoy some parties. You will have plenty of alone time when those long programming projects and algorithms exams are due. Lowering the bar for CS just makes the degree less credible and ultimately worthless to those who graduate. When they apply for a job and have no idea what is going on because they are constantly researching in books to find out how to write a piece of code, they will simply be fired and replaced by CS majors who know what they are doing.

  7. Yeah someone was broke and needed money on $90,000 103in HDTV · · Score: 1

Lets see: 67" Samsung HDTV with HDMI, 10000:1, and full 1080p = $3000 $90,000 / $3,000 = 30 67" TVs I think I will stick with the 30 67" tvs instead of one tv that is 36" bigger. I can even stand all my tv is a tv wall 5x5 and get 335" square. Oh yeah, now that is a nice tv. When that 103" gets down to a resonable $5,000 let me know.
