This guy is just looking for something to write about. Give the girl her own computer. She can look at what I'm doing online and interact with me all she wants, but she cannot touch my computer or my user accounts.
Also: WTF people actually use iTunes as a music player?
I think every platform needs to have it's killer application. Linux has done a good job at duplicating everything you have on windows, except for videogames. Granted consoles are encroaching upon that market quite a bit now days, but I'm not sure that's going to continue into the next generation of console systems. I think everyone is going to tilt their head when StarCraft 2 is released and shows that the PC still has a lot to offer. There's tons of potential on the PC platform, and Microsoft certainly recognizes this. They put a lot of work into DX10 and games for windows because they know it's one of the last things they have on Macs and Linux. However, Microsoft is totally screwing up royally on that front. There's opportunity there. If Linux is ever able to get it's foot into the gaming market in a big way that's what can tip the scales.
I think the whole reason this came about was because Google tried to offer him cash and he refused saying he's certain his business will do well. Google wouldn't go to court without first trying to see if they can get it for less than it would cost to sue. Sure it gives the guy publicity, but honestly there's going to be a point where he'd be stupid not to sell out. At the same time he sounds pretty set on never selling. Some may call it smart business, but I think he's just kidding himself.
I think this guy is full of it when he says it's not for sale. What he's really saying is "I'm going to drag this on as long as I need to until you pay me enough." Certainly there will come a point when the guy will realize he'd have to be stupid to pass up so much money that could benefit his company far more than the name Gmail ever could.
We should all upload videos that are nothing but hours of static, and use it to waste their bandwidth and money. It is time they get a taste of their own medicine.
If anyone is interested in this service I would recommend you get over to www.grandcentral.com and apply for an invitation now since registrations for the service will be limited while they move over to the Google network.
I say that it's about time I got some just compensation the hard work of being a geek. It's not easy you know!
If they really want geeks to work for them they should provide women co-workers in the workplace along with the beanbags and videogames.
I goto school at the University of Utah, and they made a Half-Life map of several places at school. They modeled the interior of our main engineering building, and made a very accurate representation of a classrom. Making a map of your school is just a good project to start learning with. It's familiar, it's easy to model the layout, and you can expand it as your skills improve.
Of course they found out that he owned a hammer so I guess they have every right to arrest him.
