As I've respond in another comment, when you have dependencies to answers to, the the notion of 'independent' states becomes moot point. Few US states would be able to survive in these times on their own, especially fiscally. California, New York, sure, they could, but not every state could, heck there are cities going bankrupt. When it comes to "SECURITY' and everything that goes with it, it should equally enforced in all US states. Whatever the measures are, they should be equal. It makes sense, because it is "NATIONAL" security.

It's not an ignorant statement. What is ignorant, especially in this day and age is to think that total freedom is something you can always get when in the end, you have dependencies to answers to. The notion of 'independent' states in today's world is pure fantasy. Few US states would be able to survive in these times on their own, especially fiscally. California, New York, sure, they could. Heck, there are cities going bankrupt. Anyways, It's a point of view and I believe that mine is valid. As I'm reading other's comments I see that many have failed to look at the actual WikiHouse site.
Their goals are to create house designs and let people 'print' these designs along with the material. It's not just about the architecture, but the entire building process, including the fabrication of the material which the house will be made of.
    A few tiny problems.
    Legalities, insurances, etc.
All of this needs to get some seal of approval at many levels.
For example in any given town, you need permits to build houses, renovations, etc.., and they cost money and more importantly, you also have to ensure your house meets a set of criteria to ensure it passes the building inspection codes, etc, you know, things like electrical, plumbing, etc..
So, for all the knowledge and good will this WikiHouse project is, in the end, it might not mean much in the short or medium term. There is a lot of red tape to deal with in order for this knowledge to be practical and useful.

All of these issues are pretty much based on so much of the violence which the US schools have been faced for the last 20+ yrs. But the truth is, when it comes to issues of security, for once, there should be clear direction on this from the Federal Government. It should NOT be left to either State, County, Municipal and/or at the school's discretion. The US needs to start acting like the country it is supposed to be, not just the fractions which have appended themselves over time.

Visual accessibility is typically important in the realm of mouse pointer, the ability to zoom in an area and most of all high contrast between foreground and background colors.
Shadows aren't a requirement. This I know from personal experience.
It isn't the saving of 500K which is important, but the large amount of processing required for the extra animations, the rendering of the shadows and other stuff.
If an enhancement brings clarity and your system won't suffer in performance, to me, that's a plus. That's why I leave the smooth fonts settings.
But the rest slows down your PC as you operate your system, which in turns means that your apps also suffer in performance. Most of the so called enhancements either create more graphics and/or actually force the OS to perform more animations.
I've done many installations of Windows where I was paid to optimize the efficiency of the OS so that very large and demanding apps could performance at their best. and in then in comes down to this, how much core low level how pixel manipulation does your OS have to do for it to display your views.
Rule of them, less is more, its as simple as that.
And further more, my comment was basically a wish that Windows 8.1 would provide the ability for users to configure their system as I did with Windows 7.
So as I said at the beginning, we can agree to disagree.
Do some performance testing and prove me wrong.

Because it's not necessary and takes away from your PC's resources.

In Performance Options all I keep are Smooth Edges of screen fonts and Smooth scroll list boxes. The rest is just fluff.

I even disable all the desktop backgrounds.

And Windows 8 or 8.1 should offer the same capabilities.

The use of a PC isn't and shouldn't be the same experience as that of a mobile device.

And it's not like I don't have resources I have an Alienware with 16 GB of RAM.

But I work with my PC and I use it extensively and I would rather have more performance on my PhotoShop or NetBeans.

I don't use a PC because I want to have fun, I use it for productivity.

And IF I do want to have fun, it's not the bloody OS that is going to amuse me, but the games I can play on it.

So even for the same of games, a lean and optimized installation and configuration of Windows is always best.

In theory, it means one should not be able to enter a website without a disclaimer about the site and what it does.

The website authors/owner should be providing the info on automation and/or any info taken from the user and how it is used.it is the user's responsibility to decide if they wish to enter and as such, this means they must agree with the terms of the site.

Now, in the case of federal sites and/or governmental sites, this must be enforced. Basically they should be able to police themselves on this.

More than likely add this to Section 508 when it comes to the US Government.

This issue has been around for a long time when it comes to privacy, cookies use, etc.

To me, it's not about "non-free" JavaScript, but rather, it should be about awareness of the site and it's purpose and whether or not they collect data and what they do with it.
