Better to have an antenna atop grain elevators and water towers than building new, ugly towers out in the open. Sounds like a win-win situation as the towers are already built - and rather than have long cable distances, might as well make it wireless.
The speed is pretty good - about the same as DSL. A little pricey it seems though - but then, it IS wireless. $65 monthly with a one-time $600 startup fee...
I'm completely curious about the Nokia Navibars that they speak of. What application is this? Did they base it on something GPLed? If so, where's the source, Nokia?
I don't think I've ever used a Web-safe palette... I usually gear my sites for the upper-end of the scale (high-bandwidth, 24-bit, higher resolution), so it's never been an issue to begin with.;>
Yep - to write an MD is like recording in "real time" - that is, it's like recording an audio tape. There are some recorders out there that accept a CD on one side and an MD on the other - that record at 2x or 4x speed, but I've not personally handled those, so I can't comment.
Quite honestly, I'm pretty happy with a minidisc player... I'm in no immediate rush to buy anything with MP3. It's small, lightweight, digital, compatible with my home stereo, the media is MD-RW...
He writes, "...few, if any, Napster advocates are arguing that it should be legal to purchase a copy of Windows wooo and share it with a community of Windows fans on the Internet via a peer-to-peer networking system? Why not?"
Because, the Internet, especially in that sense - would be client/server, not peer-to-peer.;>
Other than that, a pretty good article and I can kinda agree with his reasoning. BUT... With the way the music industry has been acting lately, I say to hell with 'em. Bring Napster on, baby!
I had a gig a few years back writing code and burning it to EEPROMs... There's a bit you can toggle that will effectively prevent reading from the ROM, so that you couldn't just snag it's program and copy it.
Look at SATAN - Dan Farmer's employer, SGI - was none too happy... ;>

The home page for Eazel here.

More info on their wireless pricing.

Funny about the Linux line... Hehehe.

I wouldn't mind one of their Mediascreens for the car, for roadtrips!
Try this code for Solaris...

The company that makes these things is here.
But how many MP3s can you really hold? It says 10 hours, but at what quality?
Not to mention battery life of the Visor...
There's also a story about their scheduler...

Archaeopteryx Software makes a nice IDE for Python, under Linux - called Wing IDE.
It uses Windows DLLs for CODECs and can play AVI, MPEG2, MPEG3, SMPEG, QT...

I was talking about the CueCat scanner. ;>
Why else would they give this thing away if they could tie your interests to a person? That's what it's all about folks - directed marketing...
And you thought DoubleClick was bad. This is just as...
How are we supposed to be a serious platform for graphics and content if we can't even play the stupidest movie clips? (/RANT)
Thx
Any relation?
Will it include XFree86 v4.x also?
Crack-smoking moderators and losers behind the submission queue, let alone Jon Katz...
