Absolutely. The theater experience, despite all the advances in home theater equipment - just isn't the same.
The large screen, audience participation, sticky floors and gooey popcorn...
Perhaps later generations will miss out with the advent of HDTV and super home hi-fi gear? I don't think so. Real theater technology will move up right along side the home gear. I wager that within the next decade we'll see IMAX quality and maybe even 3D or holographic stuff come along.
How will Windoze ever have more features than Linux? Windoze will only have those features that Billgatus decides to put in there. Linux users can add whatever they want.
It would seem that the DOJ case did absolutely NOTHING to change his ways.
There is one particularly killer sound card out there that's pretty pricey, too - and of course, there's the issue of Linux compatibility. I've found that the best card so far is the older SoundBlaster AWE32. The 64 and/or Gold suck - they took out hardware and made it use software more for processing. Just because my CPU is faster nowadays doesn't mean I want to waste cycles on playing beeps and bloops... Friggin' Creative.
And I thought I was the only one that though music has been getting lamer with each passing year. Bring back the good 'ol 80's music like punk, hardcore and "new wave." At least it was original...
Don't forget, you still need a place to put all those MP3s! Granted, hard drive prices are coming down, but still. How portable can all those songs be? You need a player for every platform you want to play them on. Personally, I'd rather use MDs. I got one of these a while ago and they're totally convenient (CD-RW in a 4" square that's totally portable!). Until they cram 50GB hard drives into a 4" square that runs on little batteries, I don't see MP3s as being THAT useful. Don't get me wrong, I think they're awesome if you're on your LAN/PC - I'm thinking of portability and general use.
Hey, I think this is cool. Granted, the iMac may not be the latest hot rod super mega tower, but considering how many people here bitch about beige cases and Wintel... I think the iMacs are kinda cool and perform pretty well. Granted, they're not that expandable - but as a person with a house full of workstations - ever hear about using the network? Share your drives on the machine in the other room. Expand your minds and ideas a little and don't limit yourself to desktop-thinking. As for the price, yeah, they are a bit high.
"Site Manager" on SGI's looks just like this. Actually, much nicer, as it's realtime shaded OpenGL...:) "Fsn" is nice too - the file manager seen in Jurassic Park - another fly-through OpenGL app. This concept doesn't strike me as anything "new."
Who knows if M$ hacked up SQL Server 7 to take advantage of things and sway the results in their favor? Remember when graphics card manufacturers made their drivers tuned for benchmark programs?
It works very well on Linux and even better on an SGI. Very nice program. I'll probably pick up the manual sometime in the near future! (it is really nice - and supports the Blender folks)
I'm sure gonna miss him. Good luck and Godspeed.

...were it not for those meddling kids!
I'll wait for it to come out on cable... ;>

Everything could always work a little better, generally. :)
...when I SysAdmin'ed at a university. Not much you can do about it, except put a firewall in front of everyone.

My favorite band is the Cure, and I still prefer them to any of the dreck on the tuner these days. :)
That would be nice - but with optical in/out and analog in/out, that's plenty good... What would you need the other ports for?
Learn 'em, use 'em, love 'em. ;>

Anarchy. Fsck 'em all! ;>
We have it here at work and EVERYONE curses it, if that's any indication. :)
No new taxes... Heheh. Sounds familiar. :)
Yeah, so? Who uses Novell anymore?
Hmm, I've been remotely printing via TCP/IP for a long time now... Gotta see what this is all about, but it doesn't sound like anything new...

If I need something to take up many hundreds of megabytes on my drive, I'll create a null file.

...thanks. :)
