correct, they do not equal real life. but nearly anyone with any training in psychology and how the mind works, will tell you that we are products of our environment. What that means is that Books, Games, Movies do have an influence on us, especially kids.

Now I have not played the game, nor do I need to, to come to this decision. the whole GTA franchise should be banned from the industry. People say that people are not influenced by video games. that is total BS. People are influenced by everything around them. Sure a mature audience is more capable of dividing fact from fantasy but there is a good deal of immature gamers who will play this game and they will be influenced by it. It has already happened here in the SWFL area. a 10yr old kid stole his grandmas car because he wanted to impress his friend "by doing some hood rat stuff" and he got the idea from GTA4 because stealing a car, was fun.
Flame On!
I seriously doubt Social Services will get involved because a parent is dictating what the child can view and not view. Shit, ISP's do it to grown ups and grown ups are legally free. A child is property of the parent unless the state steps in, then they become property of the state. This doe not mean they can be abused but it does grant the custodian a huge level of say-so in what "freedoms" a child is able to enjoy.
A Parent is a dictator to a child, period. Whether or not that dictator is fair or not is a completely different issue.
So back on point, the parent most defiantly needs to be involved 100% with any and all matters of security that pertain to a child.
That's why Norton's AV sucks. I have been advising people against that package for a while now. I have seen many machines loaded with Norton's, and ad-ware. Not to mention the whole package runs like 6 different applications in the background and is a resource hog. Trend Micro Internet Security is still top dog in my opinion. It is easy On the machine and catches damn near everything. But if your a cheapskate and want free, AVG or Avast(if you have a 64-bit processor).
XP was a good OS. If your XP was crashing when you try to delete stuff, it was because you monkeyed with a config or installed something it did not like. Either way, the error was on you, not the OS.
thats funny if you take into consideration all those posers that state Vista is bombing. ROFLMAO more like, "I am too stupid to learn to adjust and have too much prejudice to even try"
I totally disagree. Why does it always come down to bashing the innovation of others. People talk about Microsoft intentionally breaking standards or being some evil software giant. what a narrow minded and backward way of thinking. Microsoft has pioneered and made popular many of today's technologies. They have been crucial in the role of incorporating a computer into more and more of our daily lives. Yes they have made mistakes. And yes they are a giant so it makes those mistakes look bigger. Instead of always pointing out what MS is doing wrong, talk about where they can improve. They spend millions developing products that people just sit around and complain about because they can't do it better, but wish they could. At least MS is trying and if they are able to pocket some cash in the process good for them.
Now I know what most are thinking, "oh so there really are die hard MS fans" well I am not one of them. I am a fan of development period. Windows rocks when it comes to my everyday life and makes managing my office and other machines very easy, but I am a die-hard open source fan. Linux is my favorite development platform and will probably remain so for a long time.

I know I cannot wait until this is dead. I always considered this a lazy(wo)mans development and never a serious one.
