The outsourcing of IT skills is a natural cycle which the US saw in the '70s when much of our manufacturing jobs left. The only jobs that avoid this cycle are service based jobs. If you are providing a service, you must be present to do the job. Because of this, I see F/OSS as our savior if we choose to accept it. If software as a commodity is free, even the developers overseas will loose their jobs because they cost more than free! But, ultimately, companies doing business here need and require someone for support (i.e. someone they can put their hands on and thump when problems arise). If we follow the model of providing support for free software, our jobs will remain here as support people, and the development work we will do for "free" so we can get the support work that feeds our families... Example: IBM.
That is a stupid comment... if they don't want the money, send it to me... if they want the money to go to NASA, mail NASA a check, I'm sure they will put it to good use!
Maybe they should send their check to one of these start ups that are trying to win the X-Prize... or maybe my personal favorite, Rotary Rocket

I don't think it is a fair statement to say "Further proof that Open Source has made the Operating System Free." This type of free distribution is really just a marketing mechanism which was started with the whole shareware effort started by Buttonware in the late 1980's if memory serves me right. Since there is no source involved, it can be explained otherwise.
Increased productivity through the use of computers is being sited as one of the main reasons that the US economy has been able to sustain such incredible growth without causing inflation! So anyone that says computers do not make us more productive has missed the boat...
