If I want a program to launch at boot time, then I want to to launch at boot time not later?
It's an extension of the fudge where parts of the system are loaded after the desktop becomes usable.. I have tried to connect to a network drive shortly after boot and cannot but 5 minutes later it works fine ?
BootPostBootTime seems to include things that the user needs but are not involved in user interaction
Perhaps Microsoft would not obsess about boot times if the users did not have to reboot so often ?
The book is mine... I can burn it, give to a friend, sell it, write in the margins, but the contents is not mine so I cannot print copies and sell those...
The house is mine and the pipes/cables etc inside are mine but the meters and the pipes/cables outside are technically not mine , so I cannot modify or bypass them
The car (Aha a car analogy!) If I drive it on my property I can do what I like, crash it drive without proper licence, insurance etc... but on the public roads I must obey the rules of the road
If Tivo sold me a box I can do what I like with it... If they sold me a service they can restrict what I do... Tivo is normally both so this is where the Grey area comes in they use the box to restrict how I use the service ?
If someone can see inside well.. they can look... but if they take a photo and publish it then that is invasion of my privacy
The paparrazzi have been prosecuted in some countries for doing just this and taking pictures of people in private gardens and private beaches... In the USA "land of the free" your milage may vary...
The problem is that the MPAA do not "own" any content at all, they just police it on behalf of *some* of the distributors.. note not the makers/artists, the distributors...
The only thing DRM does is stop the casual copier and annoy legitimate users (The more complicated something is the more it can break)
The abillity to withdraw a key means that you can have a customer who has a legally bought Movie and cannot play it on a legally bought player!
Try installing vista on a PII with 128MB RAM... Now try Fiesty... which one works at all....
XP Will work with most obviously not obsolete hardware so Will most Linux Distros Vista's hardware requirements break even relativly modern PC's so trying to use it on a media player is silly.. What about Windows CE it runs on more hardware than any other version of windows (Try Vista on an Alpha...)
On Windows (XP) I use
a Split pane file manager (Not Explorer)
an 3rd party MP3 Player (not Mediaplayer)
VLC for Movies (Not Media Player)
GIMP (Not Paint)
Litestep Desktop (Not Explorer)
On Linux (FC6) I use
Krusader
Amarok/XMMS
VLC
GIMP
Fluxbox Desktop
And on Windows the machine still thrashes more uses more memory and is slower generally
Sorry, you are running Windows to play games...... Get a games console It runs games *Much* better than a PC ever will whatever operating system it is running
The oldest Copyable products are books, I have a card that allows me to use these without charge and then return them with out paying a penny, I can use book without ever intending to buy it and without paying the copyright holder anything..
So obviously the publishing industry is on the point of collapse and no-one is selling books anymore and we should close these "Public Library" places down!
A movie made by an Austrailian who lives in the USA about a fictionalised Scottish event that caused the Scottish people to be banned from using their native Dress, Language etc. for 300 years
They can take our lives (yes they did) but not our freedom... well actually they took that as well...
along with the land,property etc..
Touchscreen technology was proved faulty for continuous use many years ago....
"An ergonomic problem of touchscreens is their stress on human fingers when used for more than a few minutes at a time, since significant pressure is required and the screen is non-flexible. The resulting condition is labeled "gorilla arm" because it makes the user feel clumsy. This can be alleviated with the use of a pen or other device to add leverage"
There are four simple reasons why Unix/Linux/Mac is safer
There are about 60,000 viruses known for Windows, 40 or so for the Macintosh, about 5 for commercial Unix versions, and perhaps 40 for Linux. Most of the Windows viruses are not important, but many hundreds have caused widespread damage. Two or three of the Macintosh viruses were widespread enough to be of importance. None of the Unix or Linux viruses became widespread - most were confined to the laboratory (Really a consquence of the following)
Unix/Linux Runs no services by default and has no open ports by default, the ordinary desktop user dos not require any services to be running that require any open ports, Windows requires ports open for RPC to function these are normally blocked by a firewall but why are they open in the first place? An open port with a well known service actually using it is relatively safe, A large number of Web Sites run on Apache on Linux or Unix it is vunerable less often than IIS, an noticable is more often venarable when running under windows rather than Linux (if the program is kept up to date...)
Unix/Linux/MacOSX is normally run as an ordinary user that has no rights over the operating system cannot install new services and cannot damage the system... Windows (up until Vista) would normally be run as an Administrator or Power user this was required to run basic programs (a legacy effect.. most Windows programs assume that the program is running as an Admin because they always have..) Even on Vista many programs still run as Admin (Internet Explorer) this still causes the system to be vunerable (IECursor attack...) While on Linux only the core runs as Admin(root) The Firefox browser e.g. runs as my user, the window decorator runs as me, the window manager runs as me in fact the only thing visible to me that runs as root is the Session manager (which asks for my password!) and X which runs as a service and communicates with the hardware
And lastly running programs/scripts, on windows if I receive an email with an attachment I can either run it directly (If it is not blocked as it should be) or save it and run it (or unzip and run) and potentially destroy my system... On Linux I would have to save it (no option to run) make it runnable, and then run it as me, at which point it can destroy my files, and not the system.... Again Vista improves this since user programs run as the user (normally) but are still too easy to run... It's the difference between "Press this button (to be shot)" and "To shoot yourself take this gun, load it, aim at yourself and shoot it" Windows makes it too easy to do by accident or ignorance?
"the kerning between "T" and "e" has to be controlled manually." - So it can be controlled ... That's what LaTeX is for ..
... That's what LaTeX is for ..
The inline and Displayed formulas can be controlled and the fonts can be replaced
A better analogy is "This Coke can is metallic" and "This coke can is good"
...
... )
One is a fact, I could disprove it (or not), the other is an opinion, it's what I believe, you might agree, and you might not?
The problem comes if I try and make you believe the same as me
The third way is "This coke can is mine", another opinion backed up with the same as the religious arguments (Persuasion, Lawyers, Guns
Err. that's not a fix it's a fudge ...

Sorry have you ever used TeX ?
.. Decades ?
... TeX can inline equations ...?
... it's buggy and incompatible ...?
Tex already does this (and more) and has done for ohh
Uniformity between body text and equations
And the reason that people shy away from using it is
The book is mine ... I can burn it, give to a friend, sell it, write in the margins, but the contents is not mine so I cannot print copies and sell those ...

Funny, doing that in Fedora makes VLC pop up just fine for me.

Sorry do the RIAA actually pay the artists anything ?
.. Pay the Record Company ... and the Record company take their cut and pay the artist ...nothing?
Surely they take their cut

Can you tell that to all the people running Windows CE on a ARM 32bit processor ... On their Phone/PDA
Try installing Linux and then Windows ... any version
Or even Windows and then Another copy in another Partition ....
Say goodbye the the first copy ...!
