They have not refused him because he is too young, they have refused him on the medical grounds that the drug has not been proven to work except in moderate stage patients, and when he gets that far (hopefully not for some time) will let him have it...

..."final legal authority is a public document that codifies the supreme law that governs everything..." is a Constitutional Republic (which most modern republics are)
The problem is that there are also republics where the government can overrule the constitution, and unelected non-democratic republics

Republic - A country with the head of state as an elected position
Democracy - Two forms :
Direct Democracy : where everyone votes on every decision is impractical
Representative democracy : where you vote for a person to represent you
USA is a Republic with a Representative democracy UK is a Monarchy with a Representative democracy Ancient Greece was a Republic with Direct Democracy Iran (strangely) is a Republic with a Representative democracy
Americans get confused by the party names Republican and Democrat... perhaps they should change them...
Your second amendment rights give you a gun, unfortunately the US government has a large and well equipped Army that will quite happily shoot you before you even draw your gun...
the second amendment has been moot for years, and simply allows people to have a personal firearm that would be no use what so ever in any possible uprising that did not have the army on it's side (just like every other country...)
Ron Paul : 2/3 of the US population will never even consider voting for him since he is not a Democrat or a Republican, and only a small percentage of the rest would consider him a viable alternative them...so unfortunately he hasn't got a hope...
Written for Chrome/WebKit, works in Gecko/FireFox, Presto/Opera but not in IE9...
This may be cutting edge but is still supported by all the major browser engines except IE9's.... So for 'conservative' should I read 'being left behind' ?
Google have said they will stop supporting older browsers, and have implied that a modern browser should support at least the core of HTML5 (including some features that IE9 still does not support...)
HTML4 was not a standard until May 2000, but was fully supported well before that even by IE...
"...the people are people. The leaders are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said ford. "It is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them," said Ford. "They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates to the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards?" "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard," said Ford, "the wrong lizard might get in....." "Some people say that the lizards are the best thing that ever happened to them," he said. "They're completely wrong of course, completely and utterly wrong, but someone's got to say it."
Google seem to think IE9 is not as compatible as it could be.... almost all HTML5 features they have presented do not seem to work in IE9 but work fine in Chrome (unsurprisingly) but also in Firefox, Opera, etc.... with no problems...
A standard is what the majority think it is, and Google have the majority of the internets attention...
IE is still part of the operating system (depending on how you run it)... and can still crash parts of the desktop...
Having said that I have only seen FireFox crash recently... and that was due to a plugin... all the browsers seem to be much more stable than they were...
...I don't use websites that won't work with browsers other than IE9... it is the first sign of a lazy company that I do not wish to get the same attitude from again and again with everything else...
They are the same companies that will only send Word 2010 docx documents, not PDFs - even for screenshots
IE9 is the only browser I regularly use that does not render a very few websites correctly... usually because of some obscure setting deep down that is trying to protect me...and it takes more searching that I often care to do to turn it off...
Firefox, Opera, Chrome do not seem to have the same issues... ?
The only standards IE6 was compatible with were the ones MS wrote themselves...
It was the least standard of any browser...for good reason, if a website rendered correctly in IE6 then 99% of the planet could see it... who cared about the rest IE6 had extensions to make it better than Netscape, and Netscape had extensions to make it better than IE... the others were also-rans...

Do you want an all singing all dancing fully integrated desktop environment - then use KDE
If however you dislike one of the components you are stuck, because they are integrated if you use and alternative you lose functionality in everything else
It will however need a good machine, and will use masses of memory.... but you get out what you put in...
If you just want a basic environment, use a minimal window manager, and add only the components you need...it will work fine, and do all you need in most cases
This is why I like Linux, I can have either, both, or many other choices....

Note you are comparing a battery powered device (that has to be low power) to mains devices that really don't care ...
Most devices (with no moving parts, and that are heating/cooling devices) could use very little power....

I like the stats for China, until recently the most used Mobile OS was "Other" ....!
JavaME 26.80%
iOS at 46.57%
But 60% of phones in the US are feature phones ...so do 6% of feature phones run iOS .... or are these figures made up ...
Android phones vastly outnumber iPhones, but are vastly outnumbered by non-smart phones ...
