    He said "most optimal". I dont think any currency currently in use hits "most optimal", they just come a lot closer than the rollercoaster that is Bitcoin.

    So why these people?

    Because these people are in the news, missing limbs, and if you are able to watch a news report about some tragedy where 20 or so people are maimed or killed without feeling anything, it just means that you've succeeded in killing off a part of what makes you human.

    I feel outrage against a lot of things. But right now, to try to take advantage of a tragedy for political gain even as people are trying to figure out whether their loved ones are alright, is seriously messed up. If you really want to be a complete jerk and score some political points off the back of this, at least have the decency to wait until the dust settles and the bodies have been accounted for.

    True, but gone are the days when everybody rushed out to get the latest and greatest as soon as it was released.

    Whens the last time you ever heard anyone say "You HAVE to try the new Windows"?

    Microsoft has NEVER been cool, and I dont know that many people have cared enough about their computer to care what version MS released.

    The only way to prevent all possible violence against all possible targets is by definition a police state.

    Dont want that? Accept the possibility that someone could ruin your life at any possible time, and that as a free society we deal with crimes after they happen, not before.

    Bravo. Usually reporters and even slashdotters have too much of a sense of decency to start fingerpointing at the opposing party before getting any real details, but not you.

    Way to keep those standards high.

    Personally, Ive gone away from stupid fiat currencies like the US Dollar and have invested in solid Azerothian Gold and Truesilver. Nothing says "stability" like a REAL currency that is used every day by millions of people!

    and so university degrees are not just for the wealthy.

    In state tuition can be paid for in full with no loan by waiting tables, at least im my state.

    The problem is that most people dont want "responsible", they want "best school that I cant afford".

    Most news organizations have their share of issues, but Slashdot takes it to a new level. You will never see Fox having a headline that says "Meteor to crash into Earth in 2 days", and then a story which literally says the opposite.

    That sort of thing happens on slashdot all the time, and often the story contradicts even the summary.

    The entire game looks pretty basic - and who the heck cares? Watch a two year old and see what happens when you give em a present.

    Polish can be incredibly important. If first impressions are bad, the student may not get hooked, which defeats the entire point of packaging the thing like a game.

    Well, except that for $500 i now have an 8-core, 32GB RAM virtualization lab that supports every CPU extension out there including AES acceleration...

    But yea, nothing your Core2 cant do, so long as your computing needs and goals stay static.

    Spoofed TCP packets are every bit as big as a problem. What do you suppose happens when you send a spoofed TCP Syn packet to google? Might make it pretty difficult to trace where that packet originated, no?

    I find it particularly amusing that people would moan about Fox's factual problems in a post on SLASHDOT of all places. Yea, slashdot really does set that bar high.
