If you are using your debit card at an ATM and you type in the PIN number wrong 3 or more times, the machine keeps your card. Even if you are successful in remembering your PIN, you might forget to retrieve your card at the end of your session (I did once).
I can just see going to the bank the next day to retrieve your drivers license....
