Attachments can be bad because they can contain viruses in lots of forms. I could attach a simple innocent looking image with sub7 or other types of trojan horse "software" and I have a chance (depends on your security software) that it wont detect it and I'll be able to control your pc. In other words, attachments are not to be taken lightly.
Maybe I'm from the old school but email for me are meant to be only text. no html code, no attachment, no file...just plain text from beginning to end. less risk in the first way. And wtf is wrong with them, opening emails with attachments anyway ?

Yes there is a way. Stop buying their products. Make them see the negative sales and profit for some time. That will make them think on their next decision. But giving the intelligence of people (some...not all) they will ignore what Apple do and encourage them by buying apple products. might not be the perfect solution but think about it. if your customers stop buying your products because they think negatively of you...wouldn't you change your attitude towards others before its too late ?

Anyway, I really think its good to have a canadian culture; at least the history of Canada as a minimum. Thank god those colons in the first years of the colony in Canada. It's not only on CBC they have those problems, HBO and those big networks have this problem too. most shows we see in Canada are imported from the US networks and because some asshole up there think its not making enough money (look at millions of viewers) then they cancel the show and no more "next" season. Unfortunately, it's called business.
