My own hypothesis is that Google told them they would stop paying them (you know, millions of dollars) some years from now. Until then, they have to find ways to monetize the shit out Firefox and their other projects... It would explain a LOT of what happened in the last few years.

I think given the momentum C++ has right now (for better or worse, I can't say yet) you should try to learn C++11 and all the new tricks that come with it. It's a pretty different experience from C and C++98 in my opinion. Watch this for a nice roadmap and insights : http://channel9.msdn.com/Event...

The mile range is not important, we need to change the way we charge and make stations where batteries are charged, you come and take one charged to replace the used one in your car and you can go as quick as before. Maybe even do an incentive to promote coming with the battery at 1% instead of 50% (if these batteries don't handle a charge from 50% well).

After integrating Ruby into the SciTE editor, I can say that Ruby's biggest drawback is it's complete lack (at least when I tried it, maybe not now with another VM) of simple C embedding like Lua does. It was pain to embed but it worked somehow, it was not as clean as SciTE's Lua integration though.
