Well, I don't know whats the big deal about chinese computers and eavesdropping built into it is? Can you really trust American software? Ever heard of key escrow?
I saw this video on TED a couple of weeks ago (I don't visit TED regularly). My guess is that it would have been presented in TED India conference, which was months ago. Is slashdot getting sluggish?

The post is a little inaccurate. 1/3rd HAVE NOT been asked to use lotus symphony. Old timers, who joined the company before have the license to use M$ office. However, anyone who joins new will not be able to use m$, and will have to use OO or Symphony.
Also, this is nothing new. As far as I know, this has been going on for some time in IBM (about a year???)
A big vim fan, I second you.:)

Well, People type at 110 wpm..
With the mac-book, 10cpm may be an overstatement
Well, when we talk of new features, what do we really mean. To be frank, all that microsoft puts are small bits and pieces of code into their codebase and they call them features. On the other hand, standard UNIX releases, and linux have constantly been coming out with new major features. As far as Vista is concerned, my friends inside microsoft tell me that it REALLY isn't a rewrite.
Take AIX for instance. AIX 6.1 comes with security features like Role Base Access Control, MUlti Level Security, Trusted Security Stack. In RAS they have features like probevue. They are planning to come out with kernel hot-patch, in which you won't have to reboot the machine after putting a kernel fix in. It comes up with partitions, and partition mobility between machines on the fly without downtime. It comes with application check-point stop and restart.
Sun also has come out with features like this.
all major unixes have been able to handle multicore upto 100s of processors since 1990s. Windows is 17 years late. and still behind.
How many people will M$ sue? This was done on AIX a couple of years ago.. I'm sure HPUX and Sun also provide kernel hotpatching..
