I've always liked the idea of starting a company with an added clause to the mission statement that goes along the lines of "...to help and move forward all of humanity..."
That would allow the company to invest significantly into science with their R&D but still attempt to make large profits.
Then again, I feel I've probably yet to learn a lot about businesses.
