I really just don't get this attitude about free email services. It's ad-supported. So is it free or not? Because in one sentence you say it is and then in the second sentence you reveal it isn't.
Right, except the OP's problem wasn't with you informing us of this, but instead of KDawson's side-note he added on. I was responding to the OP's problem with the sidenote.
I'm sure your "immoral" aspect was meant to qualify truly "must report" illegal activities from such travesties of justice such as going 66 in a 65 speed zone or crossing in the middle of a deserted street, which are also both illegal in many areas. Exactly. Or if you lived in Nazi Germany having to report someone as hiding a jew, which while illegal would have been the moral thing to do.
Just to clarify (as I can't tell if you understood the point or not). The illegal AND immoral meant that both qualifiers had to be met before an Americans duty comes into play. If, for instance, you saw someone doing something legal but moral, it wouldn't be your duty to report it. On the other hand if you say someone doing something immoral but legal it also wouldn't be your duty to report it.
Frankly, if Americans minded their own business more, I think America would be a much better place. Yes, that's why I imagine victims of rape, murder and thievery are so glad to have everyone look the other way while they're attacked and screaming to occupied buildings for help.
Actually, their "job" as an ISP is to provide you service. It is the duty of each and every American to report illegal and immoral activities when we find it. The law might not demand it, but we as a society should ask no less of ourselves.
I can't say this strongly enough, there NEEDS to be proprietary codec and format support in Linux. There is openSUSE, although they can't offer it on the CD because of laws, anytime I open a proprietary file format it offers to allow me to download the codec (and specifies if its open source or closed source). Now I'm sure there are unsupported codecs, however it appears these aren't supported because no-one (including the company) has produced them, rather then because they're proprietary. Also installing codecs on openSUSE has been much easier then Windows.
Yes and in using it for 1 day I've quite enjoyed it. Also the sig will be there in a month's time, 6 month's time and even 12 month's time (assuming I'm still loving it of course). Much easier then having a sig that says "Been using openSUSE for 1 month now"
This is offtopic but I wanted to make sure you'd see it.
You recommended I install openSUSE and KDE and I just wanted to say I've done both and it was dead easy to install. Much easier then Windows. I've used it for a little bit and there is a learning curve, but already I'm seeing the advantages to the differences. So thankyou very much for recommending both.
I just wanted to say thankyou very much for for recommending openSUSE and KDE. What differences would there be if I took the commercial Linspire and re-released it myself? Would the only difference be non open source software that I wouldn't be able to include? If so are there any major difference between Linspire and Linspire's Freespire (besides the non-OSS not being included of course)? Or is it pretty much the same as Linspire, simply minus the things they can't legally include due to not having the license to?
[ BTW: I guess most people "make money" on free software not by support or sponsorship, by being paid in advance by the customer for the development. I know I do. Wow when given the choice between paying for code they own the copyright to or paying for code that their competitors can then freely used, I figured most companies would go with the former rather then the latter. Kudos to you for finding companies that will do the former.
Meanwhile, the RIAA has been moving the goalposts on its own in various ways, and until recently, it hasn't been some members, it's been a totally unified 100% action. Oh I agree. I also don't buy any RIAA music (although to be fair I buy no music. However the RIAA has soured me to such a degree that if I were to begin buying music again, it would only be from non-RIAA sources).
Is that choosing commercial or proprietary software based on the notion you get better support is a myth. Given that OSS can ONLY make money from offering support (or by being sponsored by a large company) with all other things equal the likelihood is that the OSS people will offer better support, because unlike closed source companies the support is their bread and butter.
Ars is abusing their publishing privilege by [informing people that Google makes promises and then doesn't keep them]. Hardly news. And it isn't it sad that this is hardly news?
To which I say, "So what?" Isn't the first rule of corporate dealings, "Get it in writing or don't get it at all?" And its having this attitude that lets companies like Google get away with it. Around these parts if someone promises something verbally, not only is it enforceable in court, its considered a lie and bad character to then go back on the promise. Much like Google has in this case.
There was no sarcasm in my post, I really was thanking you for the link. I can see how you might have read it as if I were being sarcastic, but I in fact copied and pasted the link myself and then even bookmarked it;) Honest: No sarcasm intended.
You say "If you do X I'll stop pirating your music." They do X, you don't stop like you said you would you instead come up with a new X. Seems like moving the goal posts to me.
Can you please post your e-mails from your Gmail account then? After all, you don't care about security do you?

Why would anyone be trying to promote Linux here at Slashdot? Everyone is either converted or never will be.
Gees I dunno. Is any seller of Windows held liable? I haven't heard of any instances.
The fines Microsoft were given are being used to buy computers that have Linux installed on them. Rather simple to understand really.

So I saw after my post. My bad.
Yes. And the second calls from the "Republicans" were also calls from Democrats.
Come on, if Microsoft did this we'd be yelling loudly how bad they were.
This isn't an analogy. Its naught but flamebait. Very disappointing BadAnalogyGuy. Next time include an analogy and it might not be so bad.
