Interesting: if manufactured goods can be transported easier, then it would only seem logical that consumption will increase: Thereby increasing demand and thus manufacturing. Obviously more manufacturing will actually lead to more global warming. I'm curious about what may be frozen deep in the coldest ice and what it will be when thawed onto the conciousness of mankind. I think it's funny to think that mankind is the conductor of the orchestra: More than likely we are baton the conductor uses to keep time. An agenda is at hand, far greater and more complex than could ever be imagined or concieved by the conscious minds of men, but in our dreams some of us are given clues, which we attempt to grasp while waking, only to discover we are reaching to grab smoke from a fire that is not constrained by the concepts of time and space and unbenownst to us we are the stewards of that fire: It is our free will that fuels it. If one had super-perfect foresight, then one might see that what the doomsayers preach as our destruction, could very well be our salvation. Perhaps all this warming is in preparation for the cold. Fear is the strongest/greatest motivator of the masses. The mantra for today seems to be "think globally." The mantra should be, "Think for yourself."

Excellent! Yes it truly is amazing how much data floats around out there, unsecured. Of course you assume that my concrete bunker has a Window, but it's a nifty idea that I wouldn't have considered. What are you talking about here? Windows 98? So tell me...You walk up to my computer console, but you don't see the computer. The keyboard is wirelessly connected to it and the monitor cable goes up into the ceiling, but somehow you manage to locate my computer, by following the monitor cable and you discover my computer is locked in a steel rack-cabinet, how do you plan on hacking it? Ok...let me make it simplier...my computer is on the desk, I don't have any devices you can boot from on the computer, because I boot from the network. I have turned off USB and other access points via the bios, which I have locked with a strong password. How is it the 9 year old is going to hack my computer? Oh...wait...even simplier....I setup a strong password in my bios that will be required at power-on...exactly how was it you were going to hack that again? A strong password doesn't have to be difficult to remember...for example: iC-UR~N~ED-ot

OOOPS...I just checked with "Jitterbug" You CANNOT just purchase the phone: You've got to purchase their service as well and from what I could see on thier website, the pricing did not seem very competitive. They basically piggy-back on existing carriers to provide their service, so they're never going to be able to compete by price point. So we are back to square one...Where can you just find an UNLOCKED PHONE? Seems to me like theree is quite a huge market for unlocked phones. Are there any companies taking advantage of that yet?

Agreed! When I offered dialup service, using analog lines, back in 1996, we would find staples through our phone lines in the telco closet. It got to the point where we had to put a camera up in there! As I write this post, COX cut our businesess data line, because our neighbors didn't pay their bill. Our neighbors have the same address as us, but they are in a different suite. Rather than check for the suite number, the COX tech, just cut everything to the building address...ooops sorry...I'd like to sue them, but according the the contract we signed, they're not even responsible for gross negligence. We'd be bound to arbitration by some supposed unbias firm and we'd have to pay the fees for it. Does anyone know anything about contract law? Could I still sue them if there was a repeating pattern? These telcos/cable providers, have close to monopoloy power, if you don't sign their contract, there is no other contract to sign! I'd like to sue Cox's ass off - God knows they deserve it! I'd bet there's some class action opportunity here too!

Your post is truly an eye-opener. "I am allowed to blow off customers who are unreasonable, and it's great to be able to say no and not get into trouble..." Unreasonable? I'm curious, could you provide some examples? Your statement, "Customers always want something for free and will waste an incredible amount of time and energy to save a buck or two." Only goes to show that you are prejudice. If I didn't know better, I'd slmost believe your post was designed to spark outrage, but if you truly work in customer service then you are a perfect example of the mentality that will eventually destroy the very company that pays your salary. You have obviously forgotten who pays your salary and ultimately who is your boss. I'd be interested to track your career, because If I had to bet on it: I'd bet you won't last long. Big business works in stages... First they REAP employees: This is the stage most cable companies are in now. During this stage they are primarily focused on warm bodies to fill the seats. Once that is done the will enter... FEAP stage: During this stage they will separate the employees they want to keep from those they want to release, typically by creating new divisions that make little or no sense to create. When I was at Sprint, this was the "Pro-Active Monitoring Center" which should have been called, "We know you're a bunch of idiots, so we'll just have you tell us when routers go down." This deparment was eliminated 6 months after it's creation, along with everyone in it. That elimination is called MASH. It is the most cost effective manner for them to eliminate employees as it avoids legal issues. Management might have different names for these phases, but they are there. Management knows what department to put people in that they don't want and I can assure you, if they knew how you thought, you would be in a MASH department. My guess is you already are.

This line from the bill throws me for a loop because it seems contradictory or like double-talk. You can't have it both ways can you? Clearly I must be mis-interpreting it.

    ----

    ----

What are they saying here? Content and applications written by the provider sounds fair enough, but services??? So the can prioritize based on service? So what does that mean?

If anything, it was as I suspected. This bill augments the ISP's position by clearly defining the ISP's rights and does little for the citizen with vague double-talk.

Great! I can hook-up any device I want, as long as it doesn't degrade somebody elses service. Frankly that statement is just too broad and allows the ISP to do whatever they want anyway; because all they have to do is say it was degrading service for everyone!

No - The legislators of Maine did not do a good job...but they did a job alright...on the people. Now their constituents will think they are at least earning their pay, even though they don't need it...just build another bridge to nowhere, take the kicks backs and then disappear when your term is over...

This bill is just a dog and pony show, but it's got no bite and it's certainly taking us all for a ride.

Perhaps now the best thing would be to contact your representative legislators and let them know that Maine has set an example that should be followed...HOWEVER...and this is a BIG HOWEVER...

We should be careful before celebrating and actually READ the resolution. I must admit that I have not read the resolution and while everything looks great on the surface, sometimes, we the people, end up getting duped into thinking our rights have been preserved when in fact they were diminished. I doubt that is the case here, but we should read the resolution with magnifying glasses before celebrating and promoting it.
