As someone who wades in the waters, I have to say that libertarian opinion is pretty well split. I'd give the edge to IP supporters but I'd not say that that won't change.
It as also caused in part by a huge spike in price due to government actions in Cyprus causing a huge inrush of fiat money. So expect to see a few more of these.
It's all pretty much done weeks ago. What's coming up is simply the changeover deadline. People who needed to upgrade had an incentive to do so (it was beneficial to the Bitcoin network, in which they are invested) and so did so.
Your control-freak fantasies to the contrary, free people can cooperate pretty well.
It depends on the technology. He was probably used to something else where that wasn't the case. It can be a mistake to think that something about one technology applies to another but we'll probably all do it at one time or another. Learning to be able to paradigm shift smoothly is possibly one of the most important skills a techy person can develop.
It's true that most libertarians regard government provided social services as both a fiscal and social disaster but it's mostly the fiscal aspect that's at issue. If people were to want to provide social support and it was at no cost to the taxpayer, most would be just fine with that. Oh wait, we had that. It's called charity. Shame the government is doing its best to undermine it.
Fair enough, I thought the context was obvious but if it wasn't, that's my bad.
My post was a reply to someone so entirely not a non sequitur. And also I speak as someone who has gone through the immigration process. For what it's worth, yes, it is entirely too long and egregious. It took many months to go through the process and then more than a year after that for me to actually receive my green card. When my wife went through the mirror process in the UK, we simply caught the train to London, visited the appropriate department and were out in time for breakfast. The US should, quite frankly, be embarrassed at its immigration process.
Good also. For me, the main issue is not to choose between the two but that once a government establishes a new revenue stream, it will only grow year-on-year. If an income tax had come in, we would, by now, be back at 10% sales tax with an income tax of a similar level on top.
If he really thought that, he would be hiding in a hole somewhere. It's all bluster to impress a population that is kept in the dark about the real state of things.
This is why you have a dual standard. Eventually enough people will move over to the new standard (since it would be the default) that you simply don't care about the hold-outs.
Now with electrolytes.

Sure. There's alt-coins out there. I'm a bit skeptical of all of them (some more than others) but wish them luck. There's plenty of room at the table.

Yeah, because this is the first time any of us have ever heard it mentioned. (Rolls eyes)
I was watching during the fork and during the crash. They are unrelated.
In the same way I ran out of fingers in 1970.

Guess what, people can cooperate without coercion. Is your world view shattered?
Even "Real companies" are tricky since dividends have gone out of fashion.
Up against what?
Nice plan. Except your government will continue to print money, devaluing your sock.
Even England isn't that lame (c.f. SORN)

Nice brush you're holding there. Good and, what's the word? Ah, "broad".
Straw man argument is straw man.

Something to do with all those GPUs when ASIC mining of Bitcoin takes over. It's going to get noisy.

Sure. But unless you have very particular requirements, DSP systems or C libraries would be overkill in a switch for most things.
The people proposing current immigration amnesty, of course. Which world do *you* live on?

The answer to too much government is more government.
