How about you go and study Ray Kurzweil's future predictions and mathematical models based on the exponential increase in technological development toward the Singularity before telling someone to "grow up". Your opinion may be different, but that does not make his irrelevant. I come to expect/. posters to actually have something to say before posting.
Now, I'm no psychologist and I don't have any qualifications to back up what I'm saying, except to say that I am both female and an 'obseravationist'. If you think, even just for a few seconds, about what you said there, it makes no sense. I myself tend to be rather anti-social, so having an also anti-social partner works well. However, moving away from me, if you talk to girls, you would find that a lot of them would prefer an anti-social boyfriend because there is less to "worry about".
Being secure in the fact that when your boyfriend is not with you, he is in front of his computer or with his male friends is somewhat comforting to most of us. Don't quote me on this, because I only have the people that I know and/or have communicated online with to go on, but a lot of geeks, nerds, gamers, etc find girls really annoying because they are fucking stupid. I would be inclined to agree. (Yes I am condemning my sex, cry more. Don't reply to have a go at me if you're also female. Chances are if you're on/. you're not the majority I'm talking about.) This can also be a positive.
Anyway, moving on. I can see that most of the comments are pretty divided on this subject, but let me put it to you this way; Would you rather your kids were at home in front of their computers reading and getting smarter, or out with their "friends" drinking and getting stupid?
I've been reading Slashdot daily for nearly a year. I don't usually post, I'm more interested in what the experts have to say. I'm getting a little fed up with the stupidly over used comments though. There are places (lots of places) online where you can go to say these things and get a laugh. Leave Slashdot as an intellectual retreat:)
Oh come on. Seriously, we're all over this joke now.
As a daily Engadget reader, I come to Slashdot to get away from all the plainly idiotic comments on most tech oriented sites. If you want to post the same tired comments such as "but will it play Doom", "will it blend" and "I for one welcome our [insert anything here] overlords, please do it on Engadget or TechEblog.

Anyway enough of my bitching, proceed.
