It is a very complex instrument. And a cosmic is not the first hypothesis in these case. It was very hard to find out the cause of the issue. And they could not risk switching to backup without knowing for sure it would not fail as the first one, and loose the instrument for good. It is not like you can go out there and repair it by trial and errors.
I am no specialist but I can't figure out how the fact that a memristor "remembers" its resistance makes it replace multiple transistors. And if that is true for only some type of calculations which ones and why ?
Is it really ? In France, people have an hard time to get the law applied. Legally any retailer should provide its customers with the opportunity not to buy any software bundled with the hardware. Sadly enough the linux version of the eee box are not yet available. It is said to be available soon but nobody can tell when.... As for most other hardware there is generally no choice and no plan for it.
