OSX isn't 100% Secure, I would claim that it's not even near to be a secure OS. Quicktime and also Safari are security killers for all that I know. It was also the first OS to get hacked in that recent contest and that because of a zero day exploit afair.

The only precedence that matters in Germany is if the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany declares something unconstitutional, but this won't matter in the GPL vs. Skype case. Besides this every court decision isn't and shouldn't be affected by other courts' decisions directly. This is law and this is how it is in Germany.

MS needs to make changes or else it is going to get run over by Apple. Lock in isn't going to last forever in the face of a comparable, if not outright better, product and vastly superior branding and marketing. I'm pretty sure MS isn't as afraid of Apple as they are of Linux. You might be able to buy/bribe/whatever stock holders, but almost impossible to buy out GNU/Linux. Even if they would get Linus on their side, there would be some nerds releasing GNU/Xunil (That's the point where you might laugh) just a couple of minutes after the announcement. The only thing they may fear is in fact FOSS reaching critical mass.

MS is in no danger of losing its business division so long as companies demand backwards compatibility, but in personal computing it is getting kicked around. I wonder what happens as windows7 is supposed to break the binary compatibility

The European's love of regulation will eventually cause them the same problems. When that happens it'll be interesting to see how they react when the countries/companies that actually drive the world economy fail to come to their rescue like we have to every 50 years or so. The EU *is* driving the world economy, that's the reason they feel powerful and want others to do it their way. If China takes over, in a couple of years, they will decide what happens to global companies.

Of course, this risk with KDE basing itself on Qt was obvious all the time due to the licensing model there. KDE is more popular than gnome in Europe for instance...
