  1. Re:47" HDTV, no cable, no blue ray discs on One In Eight To Cut Cable and Satellite TV In 2010 · · Score: 1

I totally agree. I've been on the unbundling bandwagon for years. I'd gladly pay, say a $10 basic service fee + maybe $2 per channel I pick. Hell, between my wife and I we're only interested in about five or six channels.

About a year ago my parents got rid of the landline they never used at their vacation home and my dad decided he wanted TV (CNN and ESPN specifically). The cable company offered him a $15/mo package with about 20 channels- half local broadcast stations and half crappy cable channels no one wants (QVC, Oxygen, MTV2 anyone?). To get his beloved news and sports he'd have to go with $60/mo package that came with 75 other channels he didn't want. Fortunately the broadcast networks carry most of the games he's interested.

My wife and I got rid of cable a few years ago for all the standard reasons and turned to Netflix, Hulu, etc. The only thing I miss is live sports. If anyone has a recommendation I'm all ears.

  4. What competition does it have? on Is a $72.5m Opening Weekend Enough For Star Trek? · · Score: 2, Insightful

This summer is pretty weak compared to years past. Usually there is a movie geared toward teenage boys every week until August.
"Terminator Salvation," comes out in two weeks, but after that there's nothing geared toward the 18-35 male demographic until "Transformers 2" in late July.
This summer is more full of empty weekends and movies geared toward other groups ("Angels & Demons" = adults, "Up"=children [though everyone likes Pixar movies]) than we've seen in a while. With good word of mouth, "Star Trek" should have some staying power against some thin competition.

  6. This might change my mind on Wolverine Film Leaked a Month Before Release · · Score: 5, Interesting

I had absolutely no interest in this movie and no plans to see it. The opportunity to see a work in progress is intriguing though, and I would be more inclined to go see the finished movie after watching the work print to compare the two. I'm not necessarily saying it's a good thing that this was leaked, but in my case (and maybe a few others), this might change a "not interested" into a potential customer interested in a peak at the film making process.

  7. Re:Really bad assumptions on Wii 'Popularity Bubble' to Burst? · · Score: 1

If anything the Wii has the advantage of truly exclusive IPs.

I bought a 360 and all the accessories back in January and sold it all off by April. Why? Because I realized that anything released for the XBox will eventually be available for the PC; Microsoft being a computer company trying to push cross platform online gaming between XBox Live and Windows Vista users.

I mean really: I already have a computer. I'll just upgrade my video card and add more memory. I'll still get to play Gears of War and Halo 2, but it will only cost me $150 instead of $600.

A Mario or Zelda game on the other hand is not available anywhere else.
